I think that is because it’s not a GPS device in the sense that the Nav VI was. It is much more of a BMW centric product. running their own ‘Connected’ app, rather than Garmin software.

Thats exactly as I see it s well Richard. To me just a replacement unit for the iPhone mount which was compatible with phone. Not sure if this is for some of us old worldly people who still live in the stone age and use Basecamp to make routes. MRA to me is the next best thing. Question is will this new toy enable other forms of files be they Garmin gpx or whatever to be uploaded. I kind of think not so in a way Wapping has it spot on..- its not really a GPS unit in the form the Nav VI was....
So what's next for us that are reluctant to leave Basecamp behind....?

Video of the connected ride navigator in use. Looks like if you are using a phone to edit a route the phone sends edits via a server (delay would indicate?) rather than a direct replacement of the GPX file via bluetooth (meaning that you don't need a copy of the maps on your phone but you do need a signal). The method of creating a route on the device would be very familiar to any garmin user with perhaps less options for finding locations??. Seems a very simple device. The video is not very detailed to be fair.

The more I look at the device, the more it seems to me that BMW have taken the wizardry part of the BMW Connected app and its phone linking, from the TFT screen on my 1600 and put it into a separate box.

A lot of people seem to sell the Connected ride cradle quite quickly, which suggests it’s not much cop, and my phone is an old shitter Samsung 7s as I’m not interested in phones

So that leaves the Nav 6 or this Connected ride navigator

I had a short play with a demo unit at my dealer whilst my new supa dupa headlight was being fitted on Thursday. They have some arriving next week and 200 coming soon. Price is £660 with no discounts available - yet!

It seems to be simply the ConnectedRide app on an independent unit, replacing the need to have the ConnectedRide Cradle and a phone withe the ConnectedRide app on it.

Have a play with the app on your phone, if you think that will serve your needs then it may be worth looking at, but at £660?

Ive just sold my ZUMO XT, problems well documented here, gone back to a Nav6 , latest version product code is 77528504067, Sycamore Motorrad are selling these on Ebay at £459 brand new sealed with 2year warranty, they also have a version with a free 4 button cradle 77528355749. I'm encouraged by firstly how easy it was to get a brand new replacement from sycamore when my last Nav 6 froze and secondly as it seems Garmin have a fix now for the previous issues with this device.

Why on earth anybody has any faith in generations one and two of the Navigator VI is beyond me. There are very few posts (on this forum at least) about the third generation, much beyond to’ing and fro’ing (with parallel confusions) over the serial numbers.

The best thing I ever did was to get a full refund from BMW for my Navigator VI, at the first sign of it misbehaving, rather than get involved with Garmin’s return and refurbishment programme.

I bought a Connected cradle when I swapped to a GS earlier this year from a K1600. My Nav VI was ghosting so as I had the nav mount on the GS (but no nav) I bought the cradle & use my phone.
The Connected app is ok but I found the sat nav not as tuned in to live traffic as Waze is so I just use Waze now. I hasten to add my sat nav requirement is very basic! If the Connected Nav had CarPlay I’d be interested in getting one but as it stands I’ll stick with my phone.
I guess the only pro to the Connected Navigator is that your phone can stay safe in a pocket or top box etc. I don’t often go into London on my bike but when I do I keep my phone in my pocket & go by the voice directions as it would be very easy for a scrote to grab a phone from the cradle. Obviously the same could happen to a nav that’s in the cradle but I’m not sure they’d hold the same attraction to scrotes as a phone.

I didn't want to sell on the 6th replacement, so I took the option of £117 refund and bought the XT from them.

Could have probably saved myself £150 - £200 by selling the nav 6 on here but I wasn't confident that Garmin would honour the warranty to a 3rd party when it went wrong

The last 2 I returned were 'Make Life a Ride' but on each occasion they gave me a 2 year warranty, which I needed!

Can’t understand why they didn’t just give us car play? I’d happily part with my money if they did. The only pain in the arse with using my phone is having to use Siri when I’d much rather be able to use the wonderwheel to control my apps.

You do it have to use Siri on the Goldwing, you use buttons on the left switchgear I think, @Arsey can confirm this, just to be certain. I can’t see a reason why wonder wheel wouldn’t work.

In wife’s VW Polo, we have Apple CarPlay, you have a choice of and ways to use it with. These being Siri, use of touch screen or right hand headunit control knob.
