Another battery failure!

:blast

2 weeks in to the new Motobatt, and went to start this morning -

Nothing , click click click ,

left for a few mins , click, click, click

Bugger

Foresight or Deja Vue , i bought a NoCo boost start for the Subaru at the week end, it sits for long periods without running, and will happily flatten a battery if left

Hooked it up, stabbed the starter and it sprung into action

Never had a failure before -

Only difference , i didn't charge the Motobatt before fitting, as it said not to, ( I've always charged them before fitting) previously

So I'll run the multimeter over it tonight and check for any accessories not turning off, ,

but looks like i may have had my first duff one, oh well

So some diagnosticery tonight

Checked the static voltage 12.3v dropping to 10v on starting and then coming back up to 12.3v

I stuck the multimeter on it and its getting 14.3v from the alternator

As a secondary check i stuck it on my Noco genuis charger, which gives you a battery condition check

It sat firmly at 1 bar for a very very long time

The input voltage to the battery was slowling increasing from 12.3v but .1v at a time and slowly

so i took it off charge and grabbed the old battery that showed signs of failing

12.3v static, and on the charger it shot up from 12.3v to 13v in less than 30 seconds and after minute hit 14v and green lights on the charger and it dropped back to 13.3v

I dug out the battery before that, and tried that one

exactly the same - 12.3 to 13v in under a minute and up to 14.3 before dropping to 13.3v

so i stuck the charger on the battery in the bike - no change 12.3v slowly rising

i wandered back to the shed and found another motobatt, even older lol and my Noco lithium, that hasnt been on a bike for about 2 years lol

i checked the lituim voltage - 13v so i stuck it on charge and it went to a rapid 15v and within 30 secs was showing 14v and charged

I tried the bike battery again - no change

So for shits and giggles i tried the first battery in the shed another motobatt

rinse and repeat as they say 12.3v - rising, and topping of at 13.3v

So all batterys off the bike (3 motobatts & 1 lithium ) all charge in under a minute & hold charge

The one on the bike can only get to two bars , so clearly has an issue ,

I'll raise a warranty claim and see what happens

luckily i have 3 batterys as spare lol

So i contacted the warranty company who wanted me to jumpo through hoops

so i politley declined and reminded them of the consumer rights act , to which they said go back to your supplier

So i contacted the supplier Monday,

they asked for a few details about the battery ,which i provided

Refund issiued at 8am today

now i need another battery lol
