Firstly, any top tips on fitting H and B engine guards? I've read the instructions, but I just wondered if anyone had any more words of wisdom.

Secondly, has anyone had any experience with Heidenau K76 tyres? It looks like I can get a complete set for the price of a rear of some of the other types of tyre.

Thanks,
DA

The Heidies last, because they are hard, I would beware if to be used in cold greasy conditions..

That's a shame, that's pretty much describing Dunedin!
Thing is, they are considerably cheaper than the alternatives, almost worryingly cheaper.

Engine guards ...tank off.
Bit of a block under the front wheel and ease any pressure on the bolts by the foot pegs. Get all the bolts in and loosely fastened then tighten up.:beerjug:

Well I appear to have a different bolts and spacers for my engine bars. According to the (badly) translated instructions I should have much longer spacers and the bolts are different lengths!

I've emailed H and B to ask exactly what should be in the packet.

No need

Fitting instructions

All in PDF form on their website

Go to Motobins website (uk importer )
They have a HB subsection
Search for your bike
Search for the Bars
Open up PDF & second part is in English

Ok, so I might be exceedingly stupid, but the only information I can find is in German. The PDF is only three pages long and has no English

This is possibly not quite what you're looking for, but this thread on ADVRider may help

Also if you google "fitting instructions hepco and becker r1100gs" and go to the images, there are lots of pictures/diagrams which may help.

It sounds like that guy was having the same problems as I am: the fittings for the 1150 are different to those for the 1100 and nowhere can I find instructions on where the spacers and bolts go. The search I did on Google images just showed lots of pictures of engine bars fitted and Google just seems to have links to the 1150 instructions.
I have to say that this is more than a little bit frustrating; I am obviously not the first person to have this problem and yet H and B have no instructions in English.

Only undo one of the gearbox bolts at a time!

When I was knocked off at about 30mph, the rocker box cover was still split, after the H & B bars crumpled. I did not bother replacing them, makes it difficult to replace the alternator belt. Getting one of the rocker covers off, to check the valve clearances was always a struggle. Fitting the bike into my garage was harder, as the bike is a little wider.

Only the rear fittings are different. The front and middle are the same.

It's only nuts and bolts, not rocket surgery or brain science.
Fit the front and middle and then it should be obvious with what's left.

I've had a reply from the suppliers; it turns out that they do have the English instructions, but by going to the website and clicking on the H and B logo I was re-directed to their other website. Confusingly, the instructions for the H and B bars are not on the H and B website, they're on the other one.

Anyway, I have downloaded them, read through them, compared my bolts to the instructions and found a paragraph that says for '94 - '96 bikes you need 20mm spacers not 12 mm spacers and much longer bolts. Can anyone confirm this?

The trouble I have is that three bolts are the same, one is different and I couldn't figure out where they went. Personally I'd rather ask a load of bone questions before I start than endure the mickey taking that will occur when I rush in and drop the engine out by undoing both sides at once!
