Ok, here goes......gonna get a new tyre put on the back...but there's no balance weights...do they need balancing ?
They normally stick them on the inside....

no it's not my first bike, yes the number plate is on the back..the bell on the handlebars IS on the left hand side....:blagblah

A straight forward answer is Yes, I've always had some balance weights on the wheels somewhere...........

A straightforward answer is no, I never had weights on my wheels.

[Edit - in fact I have an 1150, maybe 1200s or their riders are more 'sensitive']

Apparently its all down to how much care they take when fitting the tyre...

I've been told that there is a mark on the tyres that should be fitted next to the valve, this reduces the need to balancing.

The reason a number of BMW rear tyres don't get balance though is that not everyone has the right rig to balance them... my first 12GSA didn't always have the rear balance and to be honest I don't think I could ever tell the difference.

In general though, if someone has done a good and complete job of fitting your tyres I'd have expected to have seen them also check that they are balanced.

Wheels should be balanced - off course it might just happen that you don't need any weights, it depends, but you need to go through the balancing process to find out! obvious really!

no just smarter :D

If you have pressure sensors they will need balancing, although once that's done it can be left alone. I don't bother balancing the rear but do the front as that's the most important one.

I would always balance the front wheel , but I could,nt imagine how far out of balance a rear wheel would have to be for you to feel the difference.
