another great idea

It is alleged that I am a scruffy barsteward. .maybe there is an element of truth in it cos I can't remember what I used it for. . And it's still there😁.. I haven't contemplated using it on my wrists. . The dog has come close once or twice tho 😉

I am passed my curfew and I am trying to convince my othalf the bike should go in the house whilst I do my welding project 😉If am showered and sitting down before master chef finishes I might just convince her.
Not a bad evenings tinkering my lights work(factory ones at least) and I had some newly pained bits delivered

Great thread bud... out of interest where did you get the piaa from... US?

Just about to do my wheels as well, who did yours for you as they look great....?

Cheers in advance

Hi Dusty. The lights were on the bike when I bought it so I can't help sorry. I de spoked the wheels pressed the bearings out and bought the spokes (to keep the cost down) and sent them to fx wheels. I don't remember exactly what I paid sorry. I believe Devon wheels keep refurbished wheels in stock on a exchange bassis. Is time is a factor. . They were more expensive but I really wanted mine in standard colours which I could have had from them. But mine were deemed to bad to be silver and black was suggested. .but to be fair they had polished and anodised them and didn't charge extra for re doing them black (at least my bill didn't show such a cost )

Sadly today I have been packing bike bits away and preparing to get it off the bench 😢 (just as I feel I am on the "home straight " ) at the end of January when I dig it out from wherever I find for it to hibernate I will start posting more silly questions
Cheers all for your help and support

I'm back 😉.. After months of avoiding the strange shape under a dust sheet I tidyed the garage and put the bike back on the bench ..
No progress as such I have been going through boxes trying to remember "where I am" I have been "spending " during my envorced pause (quite how I bought 2 "fender extenders" is a mystery.
I have fitted the front beak. Some new indicators. . All new throttle cables. .
Not much progress. . A lot of head scratching though

After much trial and error I have realised that the indicators need moving backwards

I was intending mounting the led resistor under the tool tray..but whilst I have been testing they get so hot I am worried they will damage the plastic. .any thoughts?

Mount it there but with a spacer so it's away from the fairing. Will help it keep cool too.

Good to see you back!

The indicators - please can you tell more about them - where did you get them / what brand / difficutlies installing with electrics / any other info about the indicators

thanks

Here is a picture with the indicator info

I haven't wired them properly yet but once I figured out which was the earth/neutral (I am a joiner not electrician 😉) it's staight forward. .
I complicated things slightly by extending the arms.. (my purpose for fitting drl's is to raise my profile to car drivers not to look good ) so I cut the tops off the original indicators and fitted the new ones inside (I haven't done the rears yet)

It hasn't worked out too badly IMO ..a bit clunky but acceptable. .

The resistor again no wiring instructions and Google only seem to find single wire resistors was ok my only concern is the heat.... I had intended to bond them directly to the undertray. . But as has been suggested I am looking for a suitable bit after ali for a heatsink.
No playing tonight. But I will update when I solve it.
Cheers

Looking much better now.

I decided to fit the resistors here

Under the seat subframe thingy my reasoning being it's ali it will disperse heat, I can get a good fixing, they are protected ..
I moved the indicators rearward I decided not to space them quite so much as the front. . Just a bit to ease the cable run (I was too lazy to cut the threads) I figured moving them out as planned would interfere with luggage etc when I do my world tour.. yea right anyway they are not as neat as they were in the factory position. .but at least they should be visible when my top box goes on.

No real progress my "cable tie" stash is depleting but but nobody wants to see pics of wiring. But I am wiring my auxiliary lights through "voltage sensing" switches.. They are meant to control "DRL" lights. . I am not using the dimming feature . And yes I am using them to "switch " relays anybody have any experience of their reliability. . ?

I cut a bit of ali plate to mount them in the space meant for abs

I wasn't intending to switch them but strangely the loom for my "hella"s" had a nice PIAA switch (my PIAA had a nasty nasty switch through a hole in the binacle.. I have covered it with the PIAA switch. . I am debating whether to use this switch to manually turn off both lights. . Or just the hellas. .

It's slow going trying to make sense and tidy this lot

. .
I have worked all the wiring out now and it all works 😀well it did before I took everything off to (try) making it tidy.

My day started well the postman delivered all the cabe and electrical bits n bobs I have been waiting for,
I spent a pleasant couple of hours soldering all the connections at the rear . Heat shrink the join, Wrap and tie the loom.. power up.. blew a fuse. .. after undoing my mornings work . Still blowing fuses. .
After undoing everything I have done this week (and more) I still have a fault. . (Oddly the fault wasn't evident when I just had everything "cobbled together")
Anyway I think I have worked out the problem. . Just not how to fix it. This wire is making earth .. but I don't know where. . Now before I I strip everything down to get the loom out.. I was wondering. .just as a sanity check this shouldn't happen right?? I have "continuity between the earth cable and this terminal. .

Have a look under the battery box. As it's rubber mounted, it chafes on the main loom which is routed underneath it on the left side.

My bike developed a habit of blowing the fuel pump circuit fuse (green/white from memory) as a result of this. After repairing it I put a piece of plastic atop the loom to protect it in future...
