Greetings from a new convert to the world of the GS!! Finally taken the plunge after 9 years of sports bikes. Convinced myself following a brief relationship with a NX650 Honda Dominator which turned me full time to the way of the adventure bike.

Now the proud owner of a 2003 1150GS Adventure, and loving every minute of it. I remember years ago reading through Ride Magazine about these, and have never forgotten the fact that one of the test riders referred to this bike as like flying a Sopworth Camel - and that's exactly how I feel. Now flying regular sorties around the Hampshire countryside in my boxkite!

The only thing that threw me, and which I'm getting used to, is the agricultural feel of the gear box. Serious clunks between 1st and 3rd, but everyone (including CW BMW, Dorchester) assures me this is normal, together with a light clunk when the drive shaft engages from the off.

Now the only struggle is trying to avoid the money pit of BMW kit and accessories...

Be greatful to hear from anyone reassuring me that my gear box isn't gonna fall out, and anyone just sying hi

Excellent choice of motorcycle, sir! I trust one has the fastest silver colour as well?

Anyway, Hello and Welcome! My (silver) 2002 1150 Adv has done 32k miles without spitting the dummy out so far. :thumb Now, go and cut up your credit card before it's too late.

Very normal, but it is possible to change without clunks...it just takes practice ;)

Welcome aboard....and top choice of bike...exactly what I've got and considered amongst those with taste and refinement to be pretty much the absolute ultimate incarnation of the GS marque :thumb

;)

How did I ever ride anything else?? In silver, naturally. Would one buy the Adventure in any other colour..??! Looked long and hard at the standard GS and the 1200GS, but didn't really float my boat. There's something about the 1150 which sort of says 'go on, try and break me'...

Cheers for the reply...

In silver, naturally. Credit card has been scheduled for destruction...maybe one last quck look on the accessories website...

Welcome Chucko - great bike .... even better colour!
Im fairly new to these bikes myself and the gear changing takes a little while to get used to. I have most of my problems when wearing motox/enduro type boots as theres not much room, and it dosent seem possible to move the lever. Ordinary boots cause a lot less bother. In short your gearbox is just normal. :thumb

Black... the only colour for a GS Adventure...! You can keep your hammerite specials.. ;-)

As for the gearbox, use less clutch.. it took me ages to figure out but it really smooths things out...

If you fit a Remus full system and take out the baffle it sounds like a lancaster bomber...!!

And welcome!

Less clutch you say?? Have to say, it's all starting to gel together quite nicely re: gear changes etc. Bit of throttle to drop it into first works a treat, as recommended by CW Motorcycles. Just kinda comforting knowing they all do it.

Lancaster Bomber you say...?? Sounds perfect for my planned trip to Germany next year!! Cheers for the mail/welcome.

All coming together nicely. Just a different riding experience all together isn't it...blooming marvellous, that what I say! Old Sidi Black Rain boots work well actually so no need to change those. Can see a purchase of new jacket coming on the Horizon having tried on the BMW Rallye2 Enduro the other day...! Nice to know all gearboxes are like mine. Cheers.

Welcome aboard. My 02 GSA takes me everywhere unlike the sports bikes I used to ride. The only problem I have found is that your wallet takes a hammering as you will find out. (the extras you buy for it)

Health to enjoy

When did you buy your bike Chucko ? I think the 2003 is getting towards the last few years of the production run during which the Adv was "improved" in many ways.

Had it for 4 weeks now. Its on a 03 plate, first registered April 03. Improvements you say...?? Opted for a non-ABS version heard of numerous problems re: it going wrong.
Chucko.
