Another step forwards in solving the problem...now, Lambda sensors info please?

What date is it?

Still a mystery about the loose valve clearances?

:D

It is the date you hint at , but post midday, and I promise you, the change is real.......apart from the exhaust stud to be helicoiled, then a good tune up (and possible replacement of the oddly short throttle cable so it can be balanced properly) I think(hope) it's there :thumb2

The valve clearances remain a mystery....suffice it to say I shall keep an eye on them.

The Engine is a bit of a rattler, but it has been for a long time.......you'd whine and splutter and clank a bit if you'd had me riding you that hard for nearly a decade, so I can't complain if it's a little noisier than some :D

snip.....down on power but that, i hope, will be sorted with the above two known problems sorted out

Seton tuning
did a fast turnaround of the two injectors....nice guys to deal with as well, recommended.

£36 inc vat to do the pair and they came back with new rings, internal filters and flushed out in both directions, with a spray pattern and flow rate report.....considering the price of just ONE second hand injector is more than this, I'm very happy with that :clap snip

On the strength of this, I sent my old injectors off to Seton at 4pm Monday (Special Delivery). The were returned, fully cleaned & serviced with their report on spray pattern at 10am on Weds - outstanding service :thumb2

£47 inc VAT & Special Delivery both ways.

I shall fit them this weekend and report back.

Mike

This saga isn't over yet :blast

After getting the injectors back, fekking up the helicoil insert on the 'zorst manifold (I won't go into that now though :blast) and then setting TPS , checking valves and balancing TB's on the home-made manometer, Rosie and I went out on Sunday and the bike ran as smoothly as I can remember, EVER!!

Pick up from low revs was so good and smooth I wasn't bothering to change down half as much as I was before......it just picked up smoothly and sweetly, no hesitations, from ridiculously low revs in any gear, just sublime :thumb2

Until more than 2/3 throttle opening/speed for the gear :blast

After that, it didn't splutter or fart as it was before, it just ran out of power......so early shifting was the order of the day.

It puts the top speed at about 80 now, and although sensible car-overtakes were fine, there was no chance of dropping a gear and opening it up full for a 3-car overtake or anything like that :(

I'm ordering a couple of meters of high pressure fuel pipe and a new filter, and I'm going to take the tank off again, drain it and change every pipe inside, as well as make damn sure all vents and holes are clear.........after that, I'm going to put ANOTHER new pump in.......

The up-side is it's running well enough to be FUN riding again, even two up in the hail, and in the lower 2/3 of the power, it's smoother than I can remember, but 1/3 of the power is gone off the top

Sounds like an air blockage try without a filter for a quick blat.

I mentioned fuel pressure a few weeks ago - did you check it? Valve timing will also give you high speed issues like this.

UPDATE....

Valves checked, adjusted and double checked.
New parts so far....
Complete fuel system including pump, pressure regulator (3.5 bar) all pipes, filter and breathers.
New primary coil
New coil packs
New Lamda sensor
New injectors
New starter motor (x2, don't ask)
New plugs
New 'zorst manifold studs (10mm, again, don't ask :blast)
Air temp sensor checked and operational

Fitted spare HES this weekend.......it wouldn't fire up so left it until today.....
Removed cog again, double checked location tag was intact and timing witness marks were spot on....

Powered it up......fuel pump priming randomly, rev counter needle bouncing off the ceiling like a gibbon on speed, not even an attempt to fire......plenty of fuel in tank, then suddenly fuel started pissing out of Equaliser pipe between front manifolds :blast

Plugs removed , soggy wet with petrol, put aside to dry overnight

Seems apparent that the spare HES (recently reconditioned and sold by an American bike breakers from the look of it ) is duff :blast

Fekkity fekkity fekk

Will re-fit 'old' HES tomorrow......that was new 1000 miles ago.......will try and adjust timing on the few degrees adjustment available As quite a lot of the bolts around the alternator and HES area were loose, it's possible it had slipped out of range :nenau

Have noid lights and so on, so fingers crossed I can make it run better tomorrow :thumb

(When tried to ride at end of last week it was fekking scary.....because the TPS, valves and balancing has been tweaked to perfect on tickover, the bike lifted the front wheel very easily, but then bogged down and farted like a buffalo, then picked up again when de-clutched and revs stabilised.....)

I AM going to get this fucker sorted out :blast :rob

Bill,

I have a spare set of throttle bodies that were reconditioned by Scriminger ages ago and have never been used. If you want to borrow them your welcome.

Thanks, but I don't think it's TBs.

They balance up well, at idle and up at higher revs.
There are no leaks either in or out, the butterfly shafts are good and don't rattle and the springs are all strong etc.

I took it out today briefly, with the 'old' HES fitted, and it still does the bogging down thing.

I'm running out of ideas now....everything has either been tested or replaced or upgraded.

:tears

This one? :D

I'm going to plug in the ORIGINAL HES this week....the one the bike came with as new......I've got fekk all to lose :nenau

After that, it's going to be ripping down the loom and doing continuity tests on every wire on the bike :blast

Thinking about this earlier

Fanum have you just tried simply disconnecting the Lamda?

The ECU will go to a default map and if you have a significant improvement Well ........ :beerjug:

I did that before I got a new Lambda.

It didn't make any difference, So I put a spanker in and it STILL didn't make any difference :blast
