I see BMW have issued another technical recall, this time for the footrest circlips to be replaced.

I have lost 6 of these clips from both my gs and r9t in the past 12 months
Even Chinese bikes can get a circlip to stay in place.
I told my dealer about this 2 years ago - it seems to take a while for the message to get back to BMW HQ.
The circlip and the slot in the footpeg pin are mismatched and/or the circlip metal is incorrect or has been heat-treated incorrectly - it does not 'spring' - it gets 'stretched' beyond its 'elastic limit' when fitted and therefore becomes ineffective and eventually falls out.
The last clip that my dealer fitted does now seem to be OK (so far)
I have lost a few of these in the past, and now resort to using these. I totally agree I shouldn't have to buy my own solution to a problem, that for something so expensive should not exist.

I agree a cotter or split pin would have been a more reliable solution than a 'C' circlip.
Got any photos of them fitted?

Mine have been sorted. As in, I drilled them and now have split pin retainers.

I tried the tool this morning after I've seen your post and it was working but came back with no recalls for my bike (2021 GS). Tried now and it's not working (under maintenance).
I was warned of it about a week ago by Bahnstormers at Alton as I lost the one on my N/S front which also resulted in losing the top-hat washer (about £3) that keeps the spring off the pin.

Just checked. Nothing for my bike. Mine is 2021 GS non-adventure. What's your bike?

2019 R1250GS
From looking across other forums, it seems it may not apply to some 1250's - maybe they fitted better clips on later ones, who knows.
Just checked my 2020 R1250GSA and this came up:-

I guess that is related to the circlips, as all the other recalls were completed prior to the dealer releasing the bike to me.

I lost two rear ones on my recent tour of Germany rang the dealer and they sent replacements free of charge.
