Hi all,
Serious advice need, I have an 07 plated gsa12. It has developed a fault with fueling. The pump works (although it has been replace about 10k ago) BUT after being ridden progressively the fuel dies off and the engine cuts.
I have replace the pump control, no joy same problem the main chip has been checked no faults and when plugged into a BMW diagnostic no faults are identified. The bike is regularly serviced and has no other probs what so ever. Any ideas any one?

I am supposed to be swapping this for a sorted 1150 but no longer feel confident to do this as I do not want to give a pup to any one.

Any advice happily accepted.

It could be attributed to a blocked breather vent in the tank but i'm not sure where it is. When it dies, open the fuel filler cap and see if it runs OK immediately afterwards

How do you know the fuel is dying off?

Is the pump spinning OK when you turn back on the ignition. If it spins up and stops after a couple of sec's then it's properly pressurising the system, if it spins and spins then there's something wrong (such as an internal leak) whaich is preventing the fuel pressure to be maintained.

Still may be duff/failing FPC or pump

Fuel

I believe that the fuel is dying off as the bike just gets asthmatic and then cuts out completely. In order to restart it needs the the throttle open and set then continuous blipping to keep running other wise its like the specky kid at school and just quits again.

Tried to no avail

Coils

Cleaning fuel system and filter, at the same time cleaning the breather so there should not be a vaccum in the tank. There is still a residue of Redex in the tank as I have topped up rather than run low since cleaning the system.

Fuel pump relay

Prayin' n swearin'

Its causing me to let other people down which I really don't like

Coils certainly increased the strength of the initial combustion but then appeared to hasten the on set of the fuel cutting out. Fuel pump relay replacement again all seemed sweet until ridden and then, look out here come Charles Haughtry (surely that should never be said about a GS).

Thoroughly peeved with it at the moment, any sensible comments please:confused:

Hi O

Had a similar prob on my 06 GSA. When i started up all fine, off down the road bike was really asthmatic and lumpy. Fuelling seemed all ok but found i had a feckin great leaf stuffed up the air intake :blast. The more i got on the gas the less air it let in . Happened around this time of year as well.
Not saying this is the case with yours but worth checking (and the air filter).

Cheers fella

Thanks,

Yep started with the basics, found an old penny piece, a lip stick and the front page of the Guardian 4th june 1964........

Its starting to look like an ECU........... :(

Still, some one will get a bargain, this bike has just had the best shake down since Kylie tried to get through Heathrow in a Berkur.

IIRC there is a relief valve on the fuel system somewhere that spills excess fuel back to the tank from the injector feed.

Could it be that this valve is faulty and slowly collapsing your fuel pressure supply to the injectors?

Just a wild guess.:nenau

Sounds like you've tried the obvious stuff.

Fuel pump controller: Perhaps the replacement you fitted is also faulty ??

If you have a spare (failed) FPC you could make a 'get you home' bypass lead from it (instructions on this site somewhere), and then bypass the FPC with 12V direct to the fuel pump to rule out a possible FPC problem.

Many thanks guys

Chaps,

The only thing I have technical knowledge of is rapid entries into the homes of baddies. My knowledge of bike is kind of oil and petrol based at best.

Those of you who have taken the time to offer any advice thank you. Your knowledge has been very impressive and a steep ol' learning curve for me.

Thanks

CB
