Has anyone used any of the get you home ( Finilec ? ) type tyre sealants ? ......Good ?, bad ? , use this, don't use that. I have the B*W kit, but on a cold wet night.....etc.....etc.....

Opinions appreciated

Cheers

Finilec etc...

Have used Finilec aerosol in various inner-tubed tyres over the years and with pretty mixed results. It is a get you home temporary fix, when it works!

In my experience of 8 or 9 times, this stuff worked about every other puncture, ie allowed you to limp at reduced speed for a few miles to the nearest airline to get the pressure back up to normal. Then I got the tyre fixed properly or more usually the tube replaced asap.

I still carry a can in the pannier on my 80G/S, but knowing it has a 50/50 repair liklehood, but in the middle of nowhere, it is something. The puncture outfit, handpump and tyre irons that I carry are more effective!

On tubeless punctures on my oilheads, it is easier. The standard MbW mushroom kit works well, 4 times in 5 years, all were good repairs that lasted the life of the tyre. I get it double checked at a tyre place asap after the puncture for peace of mind, but they work well I think.

HTH. :)

Try Ultraseal, works every time for me. Except when I have forgotten to put it in

Guaranteed for the life of the tyre at speed way over the capabilities of this rider (or the GS). Not cheap, but it does what it says on the box..........

i used finilec about a month ago cos i couldnt find a hole to put a plug in.
it worked and got me home (it found the hole). it only put about 11 psi in the tyre though.get to a pump asap

Here goes - first time on this forum lark :

My experience on a *issing wet day near Ullapool, ran over something metallic and had pretty rapid deflation - < 60 secs, pulled over and injected Holts aerosol repair stuff, put tyre up 16 PSI I later found out - lasted 12 miles to next garage - blew up to 38 PSI with hardly a leak - would have lasted 24 hrs easy - gets my vote.

I use the BM plugs , but carry a tin of finilec type stuff if i'm on a long journey - wouldn't use the ultraseal stuff if you paid me -

11 of us on a tour of Western Ireland over the last May B/Holiday weekend, we did about 1100 miles. 2 had punctures, both had Ultraseal in, it didn't work on either, but the BWM plugs then saved the day and worked fine and with very little effort.

I was tempted to put Ultraseal in but resisted, I think I made the right choice, I'll stick to carrying the BWM puncture kit and my Airman Sparrow compressor.

I have used and tested ultraseal on quite a few occasions, and found a large piece of flint in the rear tonite and not knowing how big I put Ultraseal in before pullin it out, luckily it didn't leak, but didn't want to take the risk
