I'm still riding my Explorer with a view to swopping onto an LC in the summer, so I'm keenly following all of the Wasserhead threads to check on the bikes progress.
Are there any Ex-Tex riders on this group who are now riding the LC, and if so what are your comparisons so far?

I sold my TEx before I purchased a GS TE. The TEx has a turbine smooth engine and perfect fuelling coupled to good handling. I was not convinced that the bike had been fully developed.........sort of work in progress.........typical comments about BMW bikes as well.

The main reason I sold the Triumph despite loving triples was it was so good it was bland, no idiosyncrasies equals little character.........daft really.

Now the GS has lots of power and grunt, very punchy with great handling and lower mass than the TEx but it vibrates on the overrun and the owners can be a touchy lot who sleep in their BMW jackets.

Test ride both bikes at least twice and the choice will be obvious.........maybe a DCT Xtourer!......but the BMW comes across as the best built and best quality but I need to go to Specsavers.

If you're concerned about character in these types of bikes you should have bought a Stelvio.....oudles of it :)

Every bit as good as a GS IMO, and has a nice rare / different factor. The Mrs hated it on the back otherwise I may well have bought one.

:thumb My other half prefers it without the top box, otherwise loves it. However most of my riding these days is solo, so not an issue really.

Not had Triumph but sold my 2010 Multistrada S for the new Lc ......best thing i did..............also has the twin cam Gs as well and sold that ..........the new Lc is brilliant

I had my second test ride on an LC today, had the bike nearly all day, brilliant!
I rode to the dealer on a new Pan European that I'd borrowed, cos I was also considering a Pan and needed to rule it out ...or in!

Huge Massive grin factor comes as a free extra with the LC, which the venerable Pan could not compete with.

The only thing that I didn't like on the LC was an ackropovic can which was nice for the first 15 minutes but then it really got on my nerves droning away.

Question? While I was having a coffee at Fimber Woods a guy pulled up on an LC fitted with wire wheels that looked pretty cool, apparently these are £350.00 for the pair if ordered with the new bike but about £600.00 each if fitted as after market part.
Being aware of the GS's corrosion history does anyone know if the spokes will be stainless on the spoked rims, and what are the pros and cons in having these fitted.
The other guy had also gone for some smart touratech panniers and top box, I think that they were called zega-pros. He said that the BMW plastic luggage can snap off the bike quite easily. Your comments please guys?

I'm hoping to get my new red LC TE at the end of June, which means that I will be heading off to the Dolomites on my Tex in one weeks time.

I had spokes on my tc triple black which look nice on the bike but were a pain to keep clean, as I was worried about corrosion they were not stainless so I doubt the new one is, I've gone for the mags on my LC which I like and I believe they are lighter.

Congrats on the new bike.:beerjug: Re the vario panniers, the guy you spoke to is talking crap, as he is trying to justify his Touratech luggage cost to himself. My varios stayed on at 144mph this weekend, and were rock solid. They are much better for filtering with as well.:thumb

Thanks Georgie and Nutty your comments are really useful and confirm that I should stick with plan A. :beerjug:

I do like the way the Beema panniers are shrinkable!

Any more comments from others will be gratefully accepted.

I don't have your special Triple Black model, but my 2010 has non-corroding wire wheels. :nenau

I don't think the cast wheels you have now - are Magnesium alloy either...... :nenau

BMW wire wheels seem pretty resilient, to me - while the alloy ones have less inertia.

spokes are stainless on all Adventure models although the 1150GS had plated.

i thought the old 1200GS had stainless spokes too, but i might be wrong on that.

Yeah - no corrosion on my 2006 wire wheels over 4 years' ownership either......... :)

I don't think the droning sound - is coming from the Akra cans either...... :augie

On this bike the droning was definitely from the Akra can.

When I was 18 years I loved the sound of my 650 Triton on reverse cone mega's without the baffles, the way it used to burble on a closed throttle and when I dared ride it on just the open pipes it was even better, everyone in my village could hear me long after I'd left for work at 7.0am, but now at 61 yrs I like things a little bit quieter, I don't need to draw any more attention to myself, than is really necessary, especially from PC Plod!
:rob

The salesman from Astles said that there were no baffles in the Ackra, I don't know if that's normal?

Here you go Batman...red with spokes!!

I agree with Nutty.. Ally boxes may be nice but not sure they suit the std GS and who ever it was may need to justify the additional expense.

The newer Varios, in my opinion are better than the old ones now they locate on the rear foot rest hangers. The top mounts are also stronger.

As for the spokes..yep cheaper to order up front. They don't look plated but are slightly magnetic - probably a high chrome content steel, I'm not sure stainless would have quite the right properties for spokes, strength wise.
