Hi
Could someone exlain what EWS is as my 1200 06 failed to start today after a ride of 50 miles
Turned on ignition lights come on as does dash but nothing from starter button not even a click
Started first time with jump leads no problem
i have started it several times without leads since with no problem even though it has received no charge from either running or charging
Went out on it and bugger me let me down again :spitfire
put key in and out several times and it started with battery sounding strong
Have read some info on here regarding EWS but dont really know where to start (what is it .what does it look like )
Could the battery sound strong one minute and completely dead the next
If battery any advise on best option price wise that will last but not cost the price of a smal island

Check the battery connections are tight and no crap between the lead and the battery post. If that's ok, I'd bet on the battery being on its way out from what you said.

But, all the above could be misleading if there was an EWS warning

My '07 Adv recently had the same symptoms. No Start after riding, stopping and turning off the key. Bike re-started with a jump.
Battery went bad. No early warnings just went bad. Battery just a few days under a year old. Dealer replaced under warranty.

Here's a picture of the screen with the EWS warrning left hand corner.

Apparently if the EWS warning was in BIG letters across the screen, then ring antenna failure was suspect.
Otherwise if EWS is small like in picture, then it is just the computer doing it's thing, showing a failure/fault of a No Start condition.

Battery is original two and a half years old now so as going to PICOS in August i will get a new one (Any latest battery offers anyone ?)
Also i have read of people taking spare EWS part with them anyone know if these are fitted easily ?
Thanks again for Pic Rich :beerjug:

If you managed to start the bike with jump leads then it is not your EWS. Although there are instances of EWS righting itself after pushing the bike away from common known interference areas such as petrol stations, once they go they generally stay gone and as the EWS is a device that stop people stealing your bike by using an invalid key, it effectively immobilizes your bike.

the clicking you get when trying to start is a typical sign of battery failure, I've had two on my 06 GS so far, no warning like hard to start... just stright out nothing, won't start and even shut my CANbus down to..

So I advise you change the battery.
