I Pick up my first ever RoadBike last night (after years of riding MTB's and BMX's).

First ride on her this morning, feels fast and light (compared to what I'm used to) and so so quiet on the road without the drone of knobblies.

I'm thrilled to bits.

lol it took me a while to notice what you'd done! kept reading and re-reading the text!!! didn't even look at the picture. :blast

Very good :thumby:

Yep - got a Mountain bike and a roadbike.

Cycle to work some of the time - 15 miles each way so it's a good ride.

Cycled to Paris from Leicester back in May raising money for charity - over £12,000 in the end :) http://www.cycle2paris.com

Enjoy !

Yep, I've also got both .. like you i've been a mountain biker for the last 20 years but within the last month have given road biking a shot and i wish i'd done it sooner ...

You'll be amazed how quick the miles roll by in comparison to the amount of effort you have to put in ...

www.wiggle.co.uk great place to buy all those little extra's you'll need ... :beerjug:

I ride an old crock, it's slow, heavy, and creaks as much as I do, we're well matched :thumb

Yeah noticed the difference instantly, I did my pre-work route in literally half the time and half the effort this morning.

My bike already had all the goodies fitted by previous owner, uprated wheels, airpump, bottle cage, clip-in pedals plus the original ones.

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ have been my friend for the last couple of days, Thanks will give wiggle a look (saw the adverts for them on Tour de France coverage).

I had better start looking for a road bike then by the sounds of it, now I have started cycling at least 3 times a week. I have a Halfords 'trail' bike at the moment.

I have suggested a sponsored coast to coast ride to a local community group (that raises money for a local park) in October.

Should be good if it isn't raining or blowing a hooley

looking for a new bike for the Mrs. to ride as her bike is too big. was in a local bike emporium (Tweeks, as in Demon Tweeks) discussing road, trail, hybrid bikes when i mentioned Halfords. he said that they (halfords) sold BSO bikes. when i asked what they are he said "bycycle shaped objects" which i thought was a bit cruel, but :nenau

we recently have rediscovered how great it is to be out and about on our bikes :thumb2

How much do these posh modern bikes cost, then?

I ask because, to my regret, I've just got rid of my parents' bikes, they were about 30 years old (yes- the BIKES were 30 :thumb) they were just ordinary old-fasioned road bikes, three-speed Sturmey Archer gears and would free-wheel on the flat better than posh expensive modern stuff. They looked a real mess, scratched paint and dented mudguards and we could leave them anywhere without fear of anyone pinching them. I rather fancy looking for replacements from the same era.

And before anyone asks, I do ride an Airhead. :rob :D

I can't imagine anyone pinching that either... :thumb

in 13 months I've gone from having 3 motorbikes and a hatred for cyclists, to no motorbikes, 4 bicycles and a hatred for some cyclists.

I commute on a sirrus expert, have a bianchi vertigo roadbike, a spesh Epic comp carbon 29er for the fast offroad stuff and a spesh rockhopper 29er for riding with the family (even has a babyseat on the back).

I have to admit, I've been properly bitten by the wiggins effect.

I haven’t gone that far but I know where you’re coming from.

I bought a Dawes hybrid last October. The whole thing really could have gone either way.......as in, I get right into it, or I ride it a couple of times then dump it in the shed. Living where I live is a dream location for cycling, as I’m right on the coast one way, then next to quiet (ish) moorland roads the other way.

I now ride the push bike most days, and really miss it when I don’t. I really like the simplicity of it all...I don’t (won’t) have any fancy gear, I just jump on and go.

The motorbike has hardly moved and I’m seriously questioning where I go with motorcycling. I’m still dead keen on the racing (MotoGP, WSB, BSB etc) but I’m losing all enthusiasm for riding motorbikes.

+1 for chain reaction.
Not a fan of wiggle, poor customer service in my experience.
Enjoy the bike, worth looking at doing a sportive or 2 for some brilliant days out.

Someone asked how much for a bike these days? Anything from £500 - £10,000 depending on what you fancy. You can get cheaper of course but if you're going to use it for decent miles less than £500 will make it considerably more difficult IMO.

That's the point I got to. The last bike I had was a GSXR thou which I sold a fortnight ago. It just wasn't getting used.

Hmm very interesting thread

I have for the last couple of years been riding an old mountain bike
It's about had it and I want to replace it

I figure a hybrid will be about right don't want the head down arse up focus of a road bike
And too old to be flying down cliffs at 100 mph

So I figure a hybrid

Would some of you experts be so kind and point me in the direction of where to look ,and at what
