Any of you Tossers ride a pushbike?

Don't dismiss a roadbike until you've tried one. I thought I wanted a hybrid indeed insisted I wanted a hybrid but a mate of mine persuaded me to have a go on a road bike (even though I knew he was wrong).
Of course I now own a road bike & haven't regretted the decision.

The right road bike, in the correct size, properly fitted to you, combined with a saddle that fits your arse can be comfortable to ride all day long.

Can't tell you which one to buy but depending on budget the suggestion is that carbon frames soak up the bumps best. All a matter of opinion of course.

Yup, Like you Chris been riding MTBs for a while and bought my first road bike last year through the cycle to work scheme. My last BMX was a Kuwahara Exhibitionist freestyle bike built by myself back in the 80s. My Nan sold it to a friend in the early 90s as it was just sat in my old garage. Wish i'd kept that bike as it'd be worth over a grand now!!!!

Anyway here's my current human powered bikes..:thumby:

Been using the Trek to cycle to work recently, 22K each way from Maidenhead to Heathrow and quite a nice ride. The MTB is more for weekend fun in the woods:D

I have to admit, I love my hybrid but am 3-4mph faster on the same road with the same effort on my roadbike. The gearing on the roadbike just isn't user friendly - you have to give it everything.

I commute to work in London on a bike and have been known to throw myself down a mountain or two.

Yesterday did a duathlon for fun 5km run then a 10km bike ride then just to top it off a further 5km run all off road in the heat....

I've got a Specialized Epic Carbon MTB, and its awesome fun on the rough stuff. I used to ride it much more than I do now; there's something about having a bike with an engine that makes it less appealing.:D 5 days a week in the gym gives me my fitness fix during the summer. Come September I'll be back out on it most weekends getting muddy, but for now the GS and an ice cream is more appealing!:D

Mountain bike, but got into road biking 2 years ago doing the Coast to Coast ride last month :thumb2

I can recommend this lubrication :D

I have been out tonight and have one minor issue!

I can't get on with these SPD pedals and special shoes at all, going to stick some regular pedals on her tomorrow.

I got the road bike bug about three months ago at the ripe old age of 53. I have a Boardman Road Comp bought from Halfords for £740. I colleague of mine is an Ironman type and serious cyclist and he said it seemed a good buy. Its taken a while to sort it out with a change of handlebar stem, saddle, tyres and SPD's which were a great upgrade. It took about two weeks to get the sit bones hardened off but now I'm gradually increasing the distance I'm doing and enjoying it a lot. Lost a bit of weight as well. Aiming to start doing some Triathlons next year.

We've done the C2C twice in the last 3 years, both times on MTB (2001 Marin Eldridge Grade on road tyres)

First C2C ended in a big heap on Sunderland beach, breaking some ribs in the process! Lack of concentration (tired) and soft sand were the root causes.

Note the big furough that I ploughed and the distance to the landing!

I also now have a Boardman Hybrid, bought through the cycle to work scheme. Takes some getting used to not having the granny wheel, but enjoying the lightness of it.

Signed up to do the Coast & Castles Route in Sept (Edinburgh to Newcastle) and the challenge is to do it on the Hybrid.

Most weekends I can be found trying to keep in front of these nutters

not at the moment, some fecker had my back wheel away last weekend leaving me with an 8 mile walk home pushing it on the front wheel:mad:

Happy to help out on this thread with info but please remove the wheel reflectors - it's not a good look :eek

Also SE Rider - those bars on your rd bike need levelled out - they look you're used to being on a chopper :blast

don't do it, they are the best thing that happened to cycling in a very long time

+1 . They take time to get used to . Plan to get one foot out at every T junction . The are good once you're comfortable with them .

How's the saddle ? I had to wear 2 lots of padded shorts until I got used to mine .

I do.

Got my 456

Was up very early this morning, swapped the pedals over (for some basic ones) and hit the road.

Had a great ride in the early morning sun, nice breeze too. Felt a lot comfier with normal pedals so will stick with them while I get used to the new bike, will probably put them back on in a few weeks.

Then had a shower and popped to town in the car too have a "look" in the cycle shop and picked up a new Helmet (Giro Savant).
Will be going out again on the Allez again after lunch (can't get enough of it).

Woooooooosh........... recorded a new PB average (and Max) speed for my usual route this morning (on iPhone Cycle tracking app)
Loving it.

Cycling fashion faux pas Trev. Feck. :blast

Easily resolved though. I'm here to help :aidan

Chris - FYI apps are for gays. You need a Garmin edge 510 or 810 (if you've the dough) then you can transmit your journey to friends in real time and then analyse on Garmin Connect when you get home.
See pic for one of many configurable screens.

Plus clips make you look a spaz so revert back to clip less ASAP :thumb

It's more fun going down than back up...the shade was nice as was the cool breeze today.
