The event was supposed to be a 100 mile sportive - the RideLondon-Surrey 100 - held on closed roads right through London and Surrey broadly following the route of the 2012 Olympic road race. Unfortunately, you sent over Hurricane Bertha which put somewhat of a dampener on the event and the organisers cut out two significant ascents/descents leaving the route at 86 miles. Even so, 20,709 riders finished - my time was 8,711th fastest.
The tags are transponders for capturing your time and progress as you crossed a number of sensors around the route.
You won't regret that - I bought a £750 CX bike about a year ago and have not touched my MTB since. On the road (with Gatorskin road tyres) it's effectively as quick as my Ribble carbon bike, and off road compared to a MTB it's just chalk and cheese.
These things are fast, mine makes me laugh whenever I ride it because I find myself going waaaay too fast at times.
In the technical bits, they're great because you can be really precise with positioning your front wheel. The MTB feels so heavy nowadays, it just stays in the garage.
The only time it gets really scary is on fast descents on really loose surfaces..!!
If I only had one bike, without doubt this would be it.

Actually, I did!
Even though it was honking down, I knew that, for me, I was going well and having no bike issues.
Kerry, who'd never ridden more than 50 miles, said to me a couple of weeks ago, that she'd NEVER do the Boris 100 again. But she was sooooo chuffed to have completed the event, like me without incident, that she'll be chucking an entry in for next year.
I suspect things would be rather different if, like 1,000s of others, we'd had punctures or, worse, a crash.

Good job.
I've been training for the upcoming 'Horrible Hundred' later this year. My longest ride so far was 102 miles, but it didn't include any of the steep hills on the Horrible Hundred course. The lightweight racing wheels I put on my Roubaix should help with that.

Rebel tour coming up goes straight past my house 100 miles did it in 5:58 last year and hope to beat that this year. Hilly course with two ascents of the Healey pass and a go up the Caha pass (sorry Bonane pass) but the hardest bit is leaving my village, I have a slight advantage as I know that...
My road bike finally arrived ! Had to wait 6 weeks from ordering as it's a new model with the 2015 groupset (apparently)
Anyway,I've just been out on the short 15 mile loop that I used to do on my Trek hybrid before I sold it 6 weeks ago.
The fastest I ever did it on the old bike was 1hr and 1 minute and I did it on the new bike in 53 minutes and wasn't trying too hard as I've not ridden for 6 weeks and was making sure that everything was set up ok after i built in after delivery.
Very pleased.Longer ride tomorrow.
(and before any clever comments,I've adjusted the bars down a bit after the photos were taken and I had ridden it,and I know having a bag under the seat may be frowned upon but I don't give a shit and it carries a spare tube plus multi tool and tyre levers !)

I reckon that's an absolutely cracking bike - and so well specced for the coin. I suggested to a friend today that he should have a close look at one before buying his road bike.

I must say I was well impressed with the speed of the bloody thing and the way it free wheeled,if that makes sense.
I've only done the one ride but it was much more comfortable over the same rutted roads than my hybrid,which itself wasn't a bad spec.
The new bike has a special VCLS seatpost which is split and seems to cushion the rider more.
I'd love to enter the Boris 100.When is it and when do entries need to be in by ?
Would love to get a bike for the tracks around here and for using in the winter when it's wet.Canyon do a range of cyclocross bikes.
The cheapest one even comes with mudguards for the winter.Might be a nice xmas pressie !!!
