Anybody else have a hole in their 2014 GS Crankcase like this?

Mine had no sponge and when it leaked it stained the engine finish, water pump replacement did not fix it tho, needed a NEW ENGINE .

I've got one too

Mine also has just started leeking coolant. A BMW dealer told me that the hole should have a sponge in it. Now is that to soak up what dribbles out or to stop crud getting in. Either way I'm panicking - mines a 2013 with 10k on it. It does sound like a seal has let go. I've only had the bike a month. Hoping dealer will take it in and fix it.

Do I ride it there (40 miles) could it over heat and cause big problems

Help, Gazza

In addition to my last post, which looks like I've posted it twice (sorry). Im struggling to get the side cover off when checking water level. I've taken all torx screws out but that leaves a plastic peg at the bottom of the cover. How do I get the peg out without snapping the peg or worse bottom lug of cover.

Thanks again, Gazza.

The plastic peg you speak about, use a fine blade screw driver(really small) or a bradawl and push the centre pin in (self explanatory) do it gently so that you don't lose the pin as you push it thro the plastic fastener,

Don't worry about it over heating, it does not lose that much water, mine leaked after 3-days into a 11 day trip abroad, it never worried me i just checked the water level and carried on as normal.

My leak.
