im thinking of getting a nuvi 350 for my lady for £85.00 for use only in her car.

has anyone bought a white box model?

have you been glad you did? or did it go wrong and you regretted it?

thanks in advance :-)

my mate bought 1 from a shyster company called pentagon gps ( even after i told him not to) it was fine looked new etc and has not hand any issues with it but the difference between a new model and a repaired white box was virtually nothing... i know what i would rather buy

White Box

I bought one from Pentagon off of Ebay for half the price of a new one.

Couldn't tell that it wasn't brand new and it's worked fine for the 6 months of constant use I've given it thus far.

I bought it before reading all the bad feedback on them and I was a bit nervous about what it might be like.

My (unqualified) advice would be to check with Garmin support that they would honour any warranties offered by the seller - as that is where you will ultimatley be referred - a bit like buying a washing machine from currys or comet and when it breaks down being told to ring the manufacturer....

You pays your money... you takes your chance - as they say

Quite a few fellow German GS riders bought a white box 278 from a UK dealer (I have the link at work and I cannot remember the name now) all white boxed and the support from Garmin had been excellent.

Often referred as whitebox or NOH (newly overhauled), some amongst us say that they're refurb but from 'industry' experience of these with Garmin, they're new devices + parts in the box, and may have been destined for one region, then updated or firmware changed to another region, so unit becomes re-worked and as such cannot be called new in the sense of being put in a colour printed box, hence term whitebox.

Garmin does warrant these for 12 months in UK (if US its 90 days). As to the vendor, it depends on who'se offering them as well and is the origin of the whitebox traceable and if its a grey import Garmin won't warrant.

How can you tell if you have bought a white box model. I guess some retailers could try and pass them off as new :augie

I bought a whitebox Zumo 550 after talking to Garmin first.
They pretty much told me what Ram-man said above - new in all but name basically.

Garmin also confirmed to me that they (Garmin) would honour the 12 month warranty.

After this conformation I felt it well worth the savings and have had no problem with the unit to date.
