usually due to locating the cables in the wrong locations, or the wheel/pulley 180 degrees out.

three and a half hours later:eek:

fecking time waster... you'll never get to Tipp at this rate

It's pissing me off now can't seem to get enough play in the lh cable manual says 2mm slack bikes ticking over at about 2500 rpm :(

Thought you might say that don't think I can face pulling the splitter box out again tonight try again tomorrow :thumb

Thanks again :beerjug:

Just spotted this. Does this make the throttle lighter? Mines not heavy but I'm wondering if this throttle mod will cure my tendonitis problem. I only get it with the GSA.

Just spotted this thread and I've just fitted modified cable with right angle bendy bit at handlebar end. Not sure if the mod makes it lighter, I was told by the gurus at James Sherlock that it was introduced to avoid hand guard clearance problems on the adventure. Wouldn't know myself as my bikes a standard GS.
To go back to Forrys' point that started this thread, you do need two new placcy bits that replace the existing ones on an unmodified throttle; about £20!!!!! The original cable was straight and the original plastic bits at the twistgrip provided the 90 degree bend. Only reason I changed mine was 'cos of slightly sticky cables.
Interestingly I noticed on my bike that the old LH cable adjuster at the throttle body was wound right in to make the outer as short as possible. When I put the new cables in I had to do exactly the same. Just about gave me enough clearance to get the required slack. I guess better that way than the other as when and if cable stretches there's some adjustment there. I don't think steel cables ever shrink!!

I phoned motorworks back to check they were the correct bmw cables as they don't seem to have enough slack in them outer cable seems too long.
They recon they're the correct ones

At the risk of stating the 'kin obvious, the lack of slack in the LH cable might not be the fault of the LH cable (if yer see wot I mean). Have you got slack in the other three cables? 'Cos might be that they're pulling the wheel just a touch and taking away the slack you need in LHS.
Alternatively that "choke" arrangement could be a suspect if it's stuck slightly open inside the housing.
Just idle thoughts.

I spent a full day and installed new cables and a new box. Let me just say that I hated the job; my fat software-only fingers are not designed for spaces of that tiny magnitude.

However, even though I won't be quoted to say "it was worth it", the difference was remarkable. The throttle snapping back was something I hadn't seen in years.

Also mini LHS cable seemed to be too short. But by turning the nut all the way out I managed to get 1 mm of slack. By using the same (tiny) slack on RHS I had the throttles perfectly balanced and the engine running fine.

Taking out the box for the Nth time was definitely out of the question.
