A friend of mine is looking for a new headlight for his 2012 R1200GSA.

They seem to be about £200+ on ebay

Does anyone here have one?

Why not fit a led replacement they are getting cheaper and can be had for around 160 quid and are an improvement over the OEM ones they are plug and play with no issues with the canbus system .

the reflector bit is damaged, so it's not just a case of replacing the bulb, he needs the entire headlight assembly

Think I posted a link in a previous post .

It was a while ago ,but aliexpress do them

I'm about to sell my 2010 TC and was going to put the standard light back on it then sell the led unit which has the adjuster fitted.
If he's interested in the led unit get him to make me an offer.

Definitely get the led from AliExpress. Better light and it's looks good too

Not sure where you are in the country. But if you need one to keep him going till it arrives from China you could borrow my stock one.
Or just buy scotriders one.

Just a thought, how is his damaged?
Some bulb holders have broken where the spring bulb holder attaches, if it's that it can be fixed. If the reflector has popped off the ball joints inside that can be fixed too.

As per all the posts above, get an LED unit. It's a no brainer and an actual 'upgrade' as opposed to just an 'accessory'.

Can we be certain that the Ali Express led headlight is UK spec i’e beam pointing to the nearside?

That's all finished with. The beams are just horizontal. No bias. I mean on new bikes. What does matter is the height of the beam, ie. Not blinding incoming traffic. Bram of the led unit were discussing is horizontal.

I can't remember exactly right now, but I worked out that at 5m from a wall, the beam needs to be roughly 950mm from floor level. That's on an adventure.

Are the Aliexpress LED headlights just a straight forward replacement? How long does it take to do?
Many thanks.

Is it not Mot standard that at 6ft from a wall the top of the beam should be the same height as the top of the light?

That might be a ready reckoner. But s while back I downloaded the actual 'formula' to work out the correct beam height. Because of the different headlight heights - from the ground up - there needs to be a way to work it out.

My bike has had 4 MOTs with this LED unit, not all the same year center, and it has not even had a mention...
