I don't get this...

12k Service due so put it into BVM Stroud (:thumb) Tuesday and request that the front discs get checked as there's vibration under braking. They were replaced this time last year under warranty so expected the new ones to be about as good:rolleyes:

I didn't expect this though. Turns out that they fitted the new discs but the problem is still there and they suspect the front wheel is buggered. New wheel fitted today but the old tyre won't go back on - "its stretched to the old rim"?

Wheel replaced under warranty - that's both front and rear now - but tyre chargeable (arse - it'd only done 3k miles).

So, does this mean that I've been riding round for two years with a buckled front wheel without knowing it? If so, how come it didn't get diagnosed last year when they replaced the discs for the first time?:nenau

If not, that means its buckled since last service. Surely that can't "just happen"? I don't off-road and haven't done anything that could remotely be described as clobbering the thing.

The other question is the old tyre not being fit to replace? Sounds a bit odd. I put a 2nd hand Tourance from a Varadero on the rear without issue.

Anyone heard of any of this front wheel thang happening before and does the tyre replacement ring true? :rob- It's an '07 1200GSA

I've had good service from BVM so I'll be surprised if I'm getting turned over but I guess its not impossible....:mmmm

Not sure about the tyre thing, that sounds very strange?!?!

Re the brakes, I too have sufferd from warped discs and one thought that has tumbled around my empty head is thatbecause the discs mount directly to the wheel rather than via a carrier ( like true floating discs) it could be poor tolerances on the mounting 'posts' that causes in-spec discs to go out of true?

Is this what was being refered to? It may explain why noy everybody has a problem?

Interesting....

I'll know more in about 2 hours!

tbh i think the tyre thing is way over the top, suspect their just being ultra safe to avoid any agg later, insist they fit your old tyre back on,it will go on no prob,

Perhaps an out of true rim/wheel had caused and out of ballance wear pattern on the tyre, that the only thing I can think off unless they damaged the tyre getting it off the rim:nenau

ask for it back, its yours, and av a look, bet theyve forced the beading, if they have damaged it, u shouldnt av to pay?

Good idea....

ask for it back, its yours, and av a look, bet theyve forced the beading, if they have damaged it, u shouldnt av to pay?

So they gave it back to me - looks OK! :nenauThey reckoned that when they tested it with it on it still wasn't right. I'm not arguing.

So, I'm thinking of putting the tyre on the "Items for Sale" Forum with a link to this thread and a disclaimer! On the other hand, if someone bought it and it caused an accident... nah, don't even want to think about going down that path....

As for the rest, Tossers may be interested in the following (or not as the case may be:rolleyes:)

Service: £210
Tyre: £105

Replaced under warranty:
Front wheel
Front discs
Rear disc! (that came out of the blue at the last minute)

So, since new in Sept '07 I've had both wheels replaced, two sets of front discs, one rear, new ignition system and ...... (wait for it)
.
.
.
The Fuel Pump Controller of course!:blast

I reckon that's put a dent in the profit BMW made on it.:clap

If I keep going like this I'll end up with a new bike in a couple of years time. Shame they didn't get it right in the first place.:mcgun

Think I just might take out the extended warranty...:augie

Well, just had the 18k service and guess what? Yup, another set of front discs.

Is three sets in 18k a record?

Fortunately I took out the extended warranty!:thumb2

disc/wheel buggery

Yes I had three sets of front discs on my '04 GS and a new front wheel. All under warranty with excellent service from Jefferies. Bought an '07 and had no further problems in 24K miles. Ring antennae, FPC and brake hose recall all fixed by them..before..needed. Even the dreaded corrosion seems to have stopped since leaving UK.

Think yourself lucky... my ex 1200 sport MG had two & 1/2 sets of front "Braking" discs ...yes beleive it or not they dont fit them in pairs in 5,000 mls. They are so prone to wrapping there fitted with wing nuts

Regards

More to the point how come YOU have not noticed it, jeez man dont you ever look your bike over, part of the disease here is to blame BMW for everything. I am shocked that as a motorcyclist you have not noticed this yourself, take some advice give up bikes before you hurt yourself

Well, funny you should mention that.....

I just naturally assumed all GS's shake their bars and steer backwards:D

And don't you realise the skill it takes to ride on something like that?

Shame on you:JB
