Does your BT Router trip out every now and again for no reason??

Mine has done quite a few times, including just.

After speaking to the BT Broadband helpdesk more time than I care to recall it is quite a quick and easy fix.

Shut down the PC, switch off and disconnect all the cables to the Router, count to ten and then reconnect it all again.

Switch PC & Router back on and its fine again.

But why does it do it, any ideas?

When they were upgrading at the exchange for 2 meg and again about a month ago for the up to 8 meg my computer was still connected but no web pages would appear only lasted one day each time :nenau might be something similar

Had the same problem, but with a Mac and an Airport (a sort of router/base station to you PC heathen). Updating the system software on the Mac sorted it. Might be worth scanning the net for any firmware updates. Always annoying when the chain comes off, eh?

Yep i'm with BT broadband, never ever had a problem with them - until they upgraded the exchange to 2 megs, and has until recently, been dropping out every now and then. Would say it was connected but would'nt be able to get any web pages up and not send or recieve Emails

The only way to reset or start it up again, was to go the the "safely remove hardware" thingy on the tool bar, remove the modem USB cable and then restart windows, wait for it to all load up then reconnect the modem, and carry on surfing

But must admit it has'nt - touch wood - done it for a week or so

At least I am not the only one. :bow

Have you had to shove the "pencil" in the reset button at the back of the Router yet

Give it time, you will. :nenau

Nah i have'nt got a router, had my broadband modem for about 3 years (pretty ancient in computer terms) it is a BT Voyager USB, very basic - has to be for me :nenau and i have just looked and there is no reset button thingy on mine

One Less Step

Yep, happens to me every two months or so. Probably need a reset myself if I had been on the go non-stop for that long. At least I have a wireless router so I don't need to unplug any cables.

Worst breakdown I had was when my neighbour cut down a tree and took my phone line with it while I was out. Nice chappie from BT came round first thing next day and put up a new wire. Cost my neighbour £150.

Best part, it was obvious the tree would crash through the wire and the nice chappie from BT said they would have come round and taken down the wire while he felled the tree - free of charge! A lesson in there somewhere.

It's a safety valve, stops you overloading the rest of us with too much bollox :dabone :D :D :D

Don't worry, it's not just BT, it's actually more of a frequent/common fault with cable!..my poor brother has to power cycle is cable router and wireless router, on average once every 2 weeks!

Its normally a line fluctaution/attenuation, and or noise margin, that will "lock" a modem/router. I have even noticed an increase in "tech support calls" during bad weather, i.e. if it rains alot the signal drops below its normal threshold and will not connect again, till the weather passes!!

So I put it down to the actual line and quality of signal through the exchange, not the actual modem/router....No matter what make of router, ADSL or cable, normally a power cycle clears it! :D

Tempted fate - happened again for the first time in ages :spitfire

blamed the missus :nono

I'll be sleeping in the shed again tonight :nenau

I've found the BT broadband pretty good. I have odd dropouts but I put that down to my frankly crap D-Link router. I need an SRX200 gateway NOW!!!!
