Sounds like a plan. My only saving grace is that I have a sooper set of BTBR aux lights to light my path.Go for it. You have cable ties and gaffa tape?
Wish I could afford a new bike.

I'm am sure the LED headlight is a vast improvement on the old 1200 unit, but it won't put a stop to people bristling their GS's with superfluous HIDS & spots.

To NUTTY GSER: Really hope you enjoy your new toy. LIGHTS....."Twas and is a good question and great to see the guys with bikes taking the time and trouble to go get the answer for you and for all others interested. Shame about the IDIOTS that had nothing better to say than diss your valid question. Have fun and be safe

Interesting choice of word. Well thought out, spelled correctly, lucid, clear and totally inappropriateSycophant![]()
Road mine last night - I have the old fashioned H7 lamps in mine (didn't want LEDs), the dip beam is a nice symmetrical across the road and pretty much what one would expect, the main beam is more than good enough and seems pretty much the same as my old twin-cam.

I saw a LED equipped LC travelling in the opposite direction yesterday with it's light on (presumably in daylight it would have been the DRL), it was very bright and very distinctive, easy to see from a distance among other traffic, a good thing I thought
My experience with GS headlights is that they are at best marginal (1150 &1200) I have converted all to HID in dipped beam at least (not everyone's cup of tea I know....) to give more light and make me more visible to others, if I were buying a new LC (I'm not) a factory fitted improvement to the Halogen bulb would be a box I would tick, I'm wondering why it didn't appeal to you
Enjoy your new bike by the way![]()
One of the reasons I don't like LEDs is that they do fail and if they fail at night you are stuffed - it just ain't possible to stick in a new bulb and carry on.
In theory LEDs should last for the life of the bike, but manufacturing (often soldering) problems do happen - I have fixed rear LEDs off a two year old Merc for that very reason (vibration induced solder joint fail) - the other thing that happens with LEDs is that the light output and life is very temperature dependent - that's why they have a fan fitted. The fan is the most likely part to fail I suspect as it is an electro-mechanical device.
So in summary I didn't want to spend hundreds of pounds on headlights that I don't fully trust, yet, but perhaps in three years when I upgrade again? we shall see.

You make a good point, I'm not sure what happens if, the LED's breakdown. Can they be replaced individually or, is it the whole lamp assembly? Within two years I guess that's at BMW's expense, after that I'll be scouring ebay for spares!
Which leads me to another thought - thinking about a trip to France in the summer - French law states you have to carry certain items amongst which is, a set of spare bulbs. If you have LED headlights you don't it seems have a filament bulb on the bike you can change! What do I tell the gendarmerie ??
"Je n'ai pas d'ampoules" ?

Wow there's some miserable people on here. The guy's just asking what the new headlight bulbs are like compared to the old ones, I can't for the life of me think what the issue is about this.
Of course he wouldn't cancel his order, he's just interested to know. I can't ride a bike presently, but I'd be interested to know the answer to the question, just as I'd like to know everyone's opinion on the new bike in terms of rideability, build quality etc etc. Yes you have to decide for your self, but sometimes it's just interesting to know![]()
Exactly why?Oh my god I really do despair.![]()
Exactly why?
Because it's not new, it's only light. Nothing more nothing less.
Changing a bulb at night in the hard shoulder? Yeah right!
1 the spare is probably broken or got used last time
2 the torch battery is flat
3 the bulb cover wont come off
$ the VOSA wombles will turn up and expect you to call the AA
Other than half way across the Sahara where you (should be) well tooled up, a spare bulb on a bike about as handy as a spare wheel
An LED headlight is a much better option. At least they fail bit by bit. Why not have one? At least you can't not have ABS any more.
.All fine and well until the cooling fan packs in and the led cluster fries . I predict many problems with them. A spare bulb is 99p . Remind me how much an led cluster is.
