Whats your thoughts. I have a Garmin 550 and was thinking of trying it,im finding the Garmin mapsource a bit complicated.

Thoughts.....

Yes, bods on UKGSer use Tyre.

Do they like it? Yes, they seem to.

Do they prefer it to Mapsource and / or Basecamp? Apparently, so.

Why? Various reasons, including but not limited to: It's free and bods like free, it uses Google mapping, it's not a Garmin product, they can't manage Mapsource, it exports in various formats.... And more.

Give it a go and decide for yourself which you prefer. You can't break anything. If you do like it, job done. If you don't like it, you'll have to go back to Mapsource, or try Basecamp or give up.

TYRE

Yes, been using it for years, am now on the 'Professional' issue of TYRE. (cost of 25 euro)

I use a Tom Tom Rider at present but have used it on several car based TT sat navs. As with all mapping tools, you have to be precise with your waypoints and use enough so your sat nav unit generates the route you actually want to ride. I.E. the route you see in TYRE, once loaded into the sat nav will be generated into a route via the sat nav software, hence you need to use sufficient waypoints.
Also TYRE now has a useful 'Plan a scenic route' function if you want to take a chance on pot luck with your route.

Same with all routing tools I suspect.

I use both Tyre ( or did until the latest update caused problems) and Mapsource. If you are using a Garmin then I think that investing a little time into learning how Mapsource works would be a better option than taking on Tyre. I find I can make up routes quicker in Mapsource than in Tyre. As has been pointed out a bit of care is required for both. Just do a search on here for Mapsource tutorials and I think you will be surprised how easy it actually is.

I find it useful for converting routes I create in Mapsource to google maps for those who are:
a) too poor to own a satnav
b) too tight to buy a proper Garmin
c) daft enough to buy Tom Tom
d) too thick to operate Mapsource
