I want to do my first oil change on my 1100. It has done plenty of miles (almost 70K). I have been reading oil threads and thought I had better stop before my head exploded.
My other 3 bikes all take 10/40 Semi Synthetic Silkolene and it would be nice to keep things simple (I am not a pauper so price is not a major issue). Will this be OK? If not, why not?
Where is the best place to buy an oil filter tool to fit genuine BMW oil filters?

Well, I'm glad someone started one :angel

My GS had 10w40 Rock Oil put in it 2k ago.

I have no idea what this means.

Ok, step away from the bikes. Close the tool compartment. Wander indoors and put the kettle on. Then sit down and have a good read of this little known publication. Afterwards try the search button. All will be revealed.

Oil filter tool @ Halfords

Ho fu***ng ho!:D

Just put the 10/40 semi synthetic in it and stop worrying ;) My old 1150 had 10/40 semi in on a trip to Rome in summer... didn't do it any harm and didn't use any... 3500 miles and up to 35C :Motomartin

Nippy normans ( linky at the top of the page) would be a good start for the filter tool :beerjug:

I am of course taking the piss out of myself, but not by much :augie

Ooh, hang on, I've just realised that I don't know if the Rock Oil was 10w40 mineral or semi-synth.

So what do I top it up with? Or shall I just change it since it now has almost 55k and the oil was last changed at 52k?
