Well, this is turning out to be the biggest fuck-up since Mons.

Since yesterday's post ("App Updates") I found out how to update both my iPad & iPhone and did so in the wee small hours.
When I woke up today I find that I can't send emails from my iPhone, and I can't receive them on my iPad.

What the f u c k is going on here?

A simple update won’t change any settings re e mails. What EXACTLY did you do last night ?

I checked for updates (iPad) in Settings > General > Software Updates, saw that I was on Os 18.5, I didn't know if that was the latest or not, but did it anyway, after which it said that it was then up to Os 18.5 i.e. the SAME update issue. Well, fair enough I thought, shouldn't have done any harm... When I needed to email this afternoon the situation was as I said above: all to cock.

When I tried doing the same just now to refresh my memory it immediately said "You are up to date" something like that.

PS I did the same update (attempt) on my iPhone at the same time.

Are they backed up ?

Are they backed up ?
and if not, then takes this as a great reason why you should always back up your phone/ipad before doing an update

Horse, stable, bolted. I know.

Do you get an error when trying to send / receive email? Does this work if you're on cellular data instead of wifi? Is everything else working correctly (i.e. you have internet access)?

What are you using to get email (i.e. apple's Mail app or Outlook or other app)?

Can you send and receive email through webmail rather than an app?

Isn’t there a thing on Apple devices that you can go back to an earlier date? JJH

Oh God, sorry to have not responded, I've been talking to the recipient of the transfer and trying various suggestions and am STILL at it, I'll read your replies again more carefully now and hopefully "internally digest" as well, and by the way, the stuff should be backed up OK on iCloud. :thumb2

Right; off to do some internal digestion.

Thank you all, I'll keep you posted.

Did you try using webmail instead of an app?

i.e. logging in through a browser.

Might be the quickest solution to getting this email sent. Then worry about sorting the phone out.

*edit

Just found this which may or may not be relevant.

Hard to know as you've not really provided much in the way of detail, which is why I was asking about error messages etc etc.

I didn’t understand what you meant by that sorry. I have Googled but still don’t. :blush

No worries.

Most email providers let you access your email through a web browser.

So, for example, you can use the Microsoft Outlook app on your phone / ipad or you can go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365 and log in from there.

Or if you use google mail then it would be https://mail.google.com

Obviously, the site you visit will depend on who provides your email...

You'll still need to know your username (usually your email address) and password - but it might give you the access you need.

If you are using the Apple Mail app for email on both ipad/iphone you can try to go in the settings and re-confirm the password for the email accounts.

I found, over the years, this happening multiple times, reason that pushed me to change to another mail app all together.

Understanding what error exactly the device gives when failing to send/receive helps.

Hi again all, I've only just got my emails back having to see my computer man, he got both iPad and Phone up and running once more, revealing a vital unread email...

Oh, FFS, the iPhone has packed up again - little spokes going around with "AUTHENTICATING..." underneath.

Just called BT for spoken assistance and they did point out that in fact mine was basically an Apple account, and that it seemed to be an issue to discuss with them, to be fair I didn't get the impression that he was brushing me off. He did point out too that I could access my mail via the BT web browser, just tried, and yes, I can, on my desktop but too scared to try it on the iPhone at the moment...

Oh, hang on, iPhone now OK... No it isn't,,, tried to send a review of my experience with email app, screen's frozen again.

From the heart: FUCK:anger

Yep. This is what I was mentioning.
Dropped Apple Mail after about 20 years using it and switched to Spark. Never looked back.
Another Spark user here - although it annoys me that you can't search for historical emails as it only works for the last year or something.

The emails are still there, you just need to access them through another client or method such as webmail....

I'm half researching a different client, but have a soft spot for Spark as they were working with my (several companies ago) company on a native integration for our mailserver. They were nice people to deal with.

Same story here.
And I used to keep a good ~30 years local .mbox...

To be fair, even Mail.app would not be able to search back enough in that case.

It’s time you rang Apple to get it sorted properly. Go on your iPad, open safari and there’ll probably be a icon for Apple in the favourites
