The Guinness Book of Records, accepts 19,460 road miles as 'Going around the earth.

My June 06 GSA has just clocked up twice that.... so it's been around twice.

In that time I have just a handful of problems, none of which would have stopped it going around once, which is probably the benchmark most often spouted as in, "BuMW should build a bike that can go around the world".

Up to 19,460 no problems.... one rear light bulb. :( One lap completed.

22,000 miles.... around the world plus 10%.... Rear speed sensor failure.... Replaced under warranty, along with final drive.... Bike in on Monday, back on Wednesday evening.

25,000 miles.... around the world plus 28% one rear disk.... fitted from stock under warranty, one day.

26,000 miles.... around the world plus 33% one rear light bulb, again! :( :(

31,000 miles..... around the world plus 60% fuel pump controller.... fitted a spare in under 40 minutes.

38,500 near side wing mirror broken off.... Self-inflicted :blast Mended with a fork and lasted 1,000 miles to get me back home. :JB

So, two laps completed and perhaps three or four days lost. Not bad, I guess.

Hi

"22,000 miles.... around the world plus 10%.... Rear speed sensor failure.... Replaced under warranty, along with final drive.... Bike in on Monday, back on Wednesday evening."

I think 22.000 miles for a £10,000 + bike to have a new final drive unit, is not very good.

"Bike in on Monday, back on Wednesday evening."
Not in outer Mongolia.:aidan

I will not buy a BMW again & i have had 10+ BMW bikes in the last 30 years.
I love the bike but not BMW.

But it went around the world, first.... :D

I avoided Outer Mongolia on my first circumnavigation, as lots of people do.... :beerjug:

Hi
Went for a ride on Sunday & it must be karma my final drive went on me
at only 17000 miles.

upcoming events how to repair your final drive unit on a budget.:aidan

cannot see BMW rushing to my rescue,

£10,000 for 17000 mile is £58 per mile, the bike is good but not that good.

Jeff

Have done the same mileage on GPZ900 (at warp speeds), XS 400 and DR 600 and apart from chain, sprockets and other consumables replaced nothing. GPZ never even blew a bulb. I never went to Mogolia either.

My wife's Mercedes A-Class has gone round the world six times with no failures other than a trim strip coming loose. :nenau

The GS isn't a highly tuned race bike, it's supposed to be a rugged go-anywhere world-conquering tractor. So why can't it do 50,000 miles without major failures?

There are lots of them out there with high milages on them, but you only hear about people who windge that their indicator bulb has blown.

By the way,I know someone that bought an A class, and four gearboxes later and a few legal letters, merc bought it back from them.

Not only did my indicator bulb blow, but was brutally removed by that feckin pheasant with neither a please or thankyou:mad:

My 1200 is on it's 3rd lap with only one unscheduled visit due to a U/J failure in the drive shaft as I started the second lap. Oh, hang on, I'm on my 3rd rear lamp bulb so I wish they would sort that out:augie

My bike went to Australia and back.

Sometimes I wish I'd left it there.:D

Is'nt it a change to have some positive remarks. Instead of all the whingers moaning that their tyres and break pads have worn out etc etc. If you don't want to accept that things do wear out/break leave it in the garage.............:rob
