He was in dynamic mode when he crossed the ford and had the slide?? , surely he should have been in rain or enduro mode, anything other than dynamic.

Good point, but would that have made any difference to the power coming onto the back wheel? He says he didn’t touch the throttle?

Enduro, or rain mode mould have made a huge difference, As would a Honda CRF.
I think, This is just an example of having to "Re Learn" riding. There will be ways around any issues like this.
