At 69K miles......my 2007 GSA....

Had a new one put in mine last year at 43.000 miles.
It was totally worn out at the gearbox UJ
2006 gsa.
looks like yours has lasted a bit better.

Why others barely make 40K miles before replacement is anybody's guess.
Off roading surely will shorten its lifespan, and maybe wheelies on every startup, but who knows. I do know of several GS and RT riders who are well into the 80K miles and still going strong.

Mine has what feels like transmission backlash. I really do need to get into there and have a look.

So does my '08 GSA, my driveshaft was fine when inspected. I suspect yours will be backlash/end float in the gearbox same as mine.

Yes mine has backlash also.
Not too keen on running the bike in gear while on the center stand ,afraid I could or will do damage to driveline components.

Just had the U/J's sorted on mine at 105,000 miles and she's had a tough life on and off road. I'm very happy with that:thumb2

It's never good to run engine in gear on centre stand. What if it falls off the stand, fingers/arms in spokes etc. but regardless of safety the shock of torque reversals can do damage.

Had mine rebuilt t'other month at 50,000 miles. Both sets of UJs were stiff/notchy and have been from 40,000(ish) miles.
I also replaced the FD with a very low mileage 2nd hand unit and will get the original one rebuilt at my leisure to have as a spare.

I've always had loads of backlash in the drive train and the new UJs and FD have made no difference what so ever. The clutch has always been, and still is, my friend when pootling in stop/go traffic.

Interestingly every Guzzi I have ever owned (old Tonti ones and modern 1100) have far less back lash and, for that matter, as good if not better gear boxes/drives. The 1100 especially has such a sweet gear box, almost up to wet clutch Jap standards.
