I would not at lights. People in London are already incredibly fucking slow at reacting at lights, we shouldn't make it worse
Also, again, if anything happens and you have to get out of the way quickly or move the bike for some reasons... or anything... you're fucked.
But hey – I see plenty of people on bikes sitting behind cars in traffic.
I totally do at railway crossings of course. Both: air-cooled engine & useless/annoying to others to keep the engine idling that long.
Absolutely. I pleaded with the salesman who sold me my car to tell me a 'hack' to permanently disable it but he wouldn't / couldn't.
I know it can be disabled temporarily, I just find it a pain to have to do it every trip.

I have it on my Focus, and I don’t mind it really its unobtrusive but I wouldn’t want it on my bike. Recipe for feeling like a right twat at the lights when you fall over.

We have it on both our cars (Lexus RX and Honda Civic 1.8 iVtec). It's totally unobtrusive on both and works really well. The Honda engine cuts out as you release the clutch in neutral and starts the instant you depress the clutch to select a gear. The motor is so quiet anyway you sometimes wonder if it's on at all, the clue being the rev counter tells you it is. The Lexus admittedly is auto (CVT) and reverts to electric only at standstill/slow speed anyway. It just makes sense on our overcrowded roads to lower polution and noise nuisance.
I would not want it on the bike where slow speed manoeuvrability demands the engine is on for better control. It's yet more gubbins to go wrong on a bike and lets face it, BMW aren't exactly at the top of the reliability tables (second bottom I think at present).

I've had stop/start on my past two automatic BMW 520d and now on a petrol automatic SEAT. The SEAT is slightly disconcerting in that the engine stops before you've come to a standstill.
Keep the clutch pedal down.
You do know you can turn it off
I have it on my car, a manual, and don't have a problem, in fact i don't even notice it.
Of course driving in central London means i must save a few bob as well.

It was my thoughts and not a statement, I do believe I have the right to have a thought that massive tuning may be needed, without it being taken out of context, we got there in the end simply because I gave my thoughts, and you still give no thoughts or technical advice, and no insults we given, you really should read some of your own posts, to poor old Engineer or others who do try to help, and others that do not agree with what you think is the pure truth.............
sorry Rich but you can keep bashing on, but I think you where totally wrong to try to take this thread into a tuning bashing thread, it was certainly my thinking, and just to clarify, I got a very nice PM from Geoff from HT, who was very nice and respectful and he respects my thoughts and agrees I have nothing against him, I was looking to see how I could wisely invest my hard earned, and keep things light hearted, he agreed I have my choices and I took them due to purely technical aspects and not rumours.Weird Bob

I know on some of the German brands if the car has a sports mode that will disable it also, just depends if your car remembers it’s last mode after you restart.
I used to always disable it but the last rental car seemed much smarter about it and I would almost swear it was linked to GPS or something as when I would be at a busy roundabout waiting to go it would never kick in but around town it would.

That is correct, and in Germany we can only filter if traffic is not moving, however be very careful if traffic is stopped it is normally for an accident, and Germans move their cars more to the left and the right, to allow emergency vehicles through, do not get caught in that lane filtering, fine is heavy....back to stop n start..
Ouch - I would presume they were being polite and making way for me!
I would be in trouble so much. Can you use bus lanes etc?

Start stop requires stronger starter motor, battery, starter ring & most importantly different plain bearings (most bikes) Obviously a weight / cost penalty

Look on the bright side.....although it is a pain in the ass, it helps keep your Car Tax bill down as it gets the car through the legislative tests with a lower CO2 value.
