Where is the best place to site the Autocom and wire it in, also anyone fitted a Hid light unit ,there seems to be some confusion as to needing a canbus type .
Option no.2 for you is under the false tank cover, fits in the space alongside the battery (it's as if BMW meant it to go there !)
This gives you power right next to it, and no need for extension cables for rider output as they already reach. You set it up vox wise and forget it. I've not touched mine since the day I fitted it to the new bike.
There are good reflectors in these headlights, so all I needed to do was uprate the bulbs to Philips Crystal vision. These are far better than standard, much cheaper than HID, easy to fit, legal, and still out-perform the HID kit I fitted on my last Sprint ST with projectors ( it's all down to the reflectors I'm told )
My autocom instructions say it must not be powered from the battery but should pick up from a switched live such as the side light ,this is how I wired it on my last bike.
I allready have a Hid from my Yamaha ,and have ordered the H7 bulb for the BMW.
Some Hids are now saying ok for Can bus in the ad's,I thought they all are?

You don't take it off the battery direct, there are powered outputs under that cover that are canbus controlled. You don't flatten the battery as it down-powers after so many seconds when you turn off the key. That's why it's ideal to fit it there.
