Hi Evereyone

i have an autocom SPA with BTM-02 Bluetooth and Wire 3 modules to install on a 2014 R1200 GS LC and am seeking advice from anyone who has installed one on a similar machine on the optimum installation point.

I have seen reference to an auxiliary socket under the seat but cant find it, does my bike have one and if so where is it located.

I have just fitted mine. I have the SPA unit and a two way radio under the pillion seat which is tight but possible, both in plastic bags and bubble wrap. If you drop the rear under seat black plastic guard (3 torque screws) this will give you access to the rear tail light. There are 3 cir-clips to remove and the tail light can then be slid out. This will give you access to the connecting plug. There are 3 wires. If you test this with a meter you should find the 12 volt supply ( Its the grey wire with the RED STRIPE). The loom is on the right hand side under the seat. You must fit a relay switch for a supply, which available from Autocom. Connect the main plus + and negative - wires direct to the battery, then connect the switch positive of the relay to the tail light 12 volt supply. Gently cut into the loom and identify the GREY wire with the red stripe. Cut the wire insert a piece of shrink wrap and solder the all three together. Slide up the shrink wrap and finally tape the loom back up with some sparky tape. It is also advised to solder the Bluetooth supply here also as the plug is prone to fall out of the SPA unit. IF YOU DO NOT FIT A RELAY UNIT IT WILL DRAIN YOUR BATTERY.
Hope this helps. This is the recommend method by an Autocom Dealer.

You must connect your Blue tooth unit to the Riders Phone input on your SPA and NOT the GPS input. The GPS input is for a wired configuration.

Good luck

There isn't an auxiliary socket under the seat, however there is a true switched live you can use under the seat, easy install. No relays needed.

Thanks for the response. I am a little green on this bike so is there any chance of being more specific about the location and colour of the switched live under the seat, a photo of it would be greatly appreciated

Very interested to know where this live is as the information I was provided with was obtained via BMW dealer and Autocom dealer. Relay connection was insisted upon. You are referring to a 2013 GS LC are you Roadrider?

No live under my seat that I can see. There is how ever a testing socket and fuse box which looks like a socket.

Under the rider seat, large black socket, press the two plastic clips at the side of the socket & pull out. You will see there are two fuses, a 15amp(permanent live) & 7.5 amp this is the true switched live, the wires are red/thick blue stripe & red/thin black stripe, solder on to one of them & wrap with amalgam tape ( forms a rubberised watertight seal). earth to neg on battery terminal. ( If you don't have the tape mentioned I'll send you enough to do the job if you want).

You should fit a relay switch like the one supplied by autocom or similar which is also fused otherwise when you charge your battery on the bike through the cambus system the autocom SPA system will draw power resulting in a permanent draw on power from the battery charger.

Would a Fuzeblocks FZ1 Switchable Fuse Panel satisfy requirements for a Relay ?

Where have you mounted the FZ1 ?

The only place i have found so far is in the cavity above the tail light with the autocom directly in front of it.

I would rather mount it somewhere more accessible and would welcome any suggestions

True ign circuit is not affected

Mounting Location for Fuzeblocks FZ1

Hi

Have tried installing the FZ1 under the riders seat as per YouTube video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTpsccTIW6Y

When FZ1 is positioned on top of the silver unit (ECU ??) the seat needs to be slammed into position, does anyone know how the unit featured in the video was installed without the need to force the seat back on.

Autocom Customer Service (LACK OF)

Hi everyone

got the autocom connected up yesterday only to find the autocom unit was dead as a doornail. Called Autocom and spoke to a lady for whom ENGLISH was definitely NOT her first language and asked to speak to a member of their Tech Support team only to be told I had to email them, tried explaining that I wished to have a telephone conversation with a technician to troubleshoot the installation but was met with the same response, contact via email only.

She said all technical staff were out so I suggested she contact one of them on a mobile and request he/she calls me back and was met with same response namely they could only be contacted via email. left my details and yes you've guessed it some 24 hours later I am still waiting for a call from Autocom.

Thankfully I contacted CHAINSPEED and spoke to Sam who was extremely helpful and gave me some valuable advice on troubleshooting the installation. as a result of the advice given the fault was diagnosed as water damage to the main board. I called Sam to advise him of the outcome and quoted £125 for a replacement board and said he would call me back in the morning to confirm price and availability.

True to his word Sam called me this morning to confirm price and availability of a replacement board at virtually his cost price, considerably less than price quoted yesterday.

Needless to say I have ordered the part and will continue giving him my business.

I should add that prior to yesterday I had never heard of or dealt with Chainspeed and based on my experience with them so far will continue using them and recommend them to others. Sam is knowledgeable of the products he sells and took the time to share his knowledge to help out, a quality that is unfortunately seriously lacking with some manufacturers and dealers. Autocom Take note.

That is exactly what I am using to power my Autocom / BT02A / Amp.

I've got the lot under the passenger seat, all fits comfortably. Just a piece of plastic bag covering it just in case of rain getting in, never has so far.

the only way I can get it under the passenger seat is by putting the FZ1 in the tail light cavity and the autocom in front of it thereby allowing me access to the controls. only downside is that the autocom needs to be moved to access the FZ1 and extra cable needs to be left to allow the unit to be removed.

I put Autocom and B2B radio under pillion seat, it's a squeeze but does fit. For a switched live to both I ran a sleeved wire behind the side panels and put an angled plug on the end and used the Auxilary socket on the right of the speedo etc. it works fine and is simple and safe and easy to disconnect. I took the Nav V mount off and put a Zumo 550 on, powered from the GPS socket under the right side of the beak. I also use a PTT so took the plastic off to cable this to the left bar. All seems to work fine, minimal noise on signals from earth loops etc is not even noticeable with earplugs.

Why bother with FZI.

I had a board fail because water got in,it had been fitted to the bike for around 12 months, before I fitted the new board into the case I coated it in acf50 . 3 years later so far so good.

This is beginning to sound like PistonHeads...

Seeing that you asked I will do my best to answer your question

1) Having shelled out the princely sum of £69 for it I thought I was entitled to install it.
2) its a neat way of providing power to several devices, Autocom, BTM02, Wire 3 & USB charger, radio
3) am open to suggestions of an easier and neater way to do it
