Autocom speakers in a TourX

Anyone have a foto or two of how they've installed their Autocom speakers in a TourX? I've just popped them in behind the cheek pads - the fit is good but have noticed a considerable drop in volume

Just a living room test with IPod up to max volume and with control unit to max but sound is clear but level is a bit subdued.

There's plenty of space to install but no matter where I velcro the speakers they are invariably behind the pad which obviously absorbs a lot of output. Bit of a bugger to sort - if anyone has a foto or two - I'd much appreciate it.

Don't install them behind the pads, take the pads out and remove the covers, there is a recess you fit them into on the actual pad and then refit the cover.

It can take a couple of attempts so the speaker is right beside your ear but as the only thing between your lug and the speaker is the blue cover you won't find any problems with volume.

next phase - how did you fix the audio cable that comes from the helmet - other than trying to wedge it between shell and lip I can't see any other alternatives

Wedging it is the method that seems most common, never seen it done any other way.

I did use some duct tape to keep it tidy against the shell though.

Do you actually fit them to the cheek pad under the cheek pad cover ??
I just put mine in the recess where the cheek pad meets the rear padding, if you see what i mean

got to take it apart today to fit the open face kit for the mic, so might have another look and maybe take some piccies for comments

Well been out today with the revised setup, VOX control was spot on with the open face kit fitted.
Volume was fine when speaking at all speeds (legalish) however the IPOD music could not be heard on the move and very low at standstill even with the ipod at max level, when I got home I tried another IPOD which was much louder and needed the volume reducing alot.

After investigation into the 1st ipod I found in the settings that the max volume level was cappedset at about 1/3 of maximum. This was set back to max and now both Ipods have the capabilty to blow my head off

So the moral of this tale is check your settings on your ipod aswell

Fitted this after receiving a recommendation from Autocom to the Tour X and it does make a difference.

Basically it is an extra foam cover and currently listed at £2 so very cost effective.

looks like mine in the photo above when its fitted, trust me it works a treat, my vox was constantly activating before it was fitted

The mic is held in place by being behind the cheek pad mainly and bent to shape, the kit came with some sticky back velcro, I cut a small strip (which you see in the photo) just to help keep it in place. I might get some more photo's tomorrow if I get chance to show exactly what I did..

ref getting the open face kit, I got mine direct from autocom, only because the dealer I got the kit from is closed till the 11th

well the ofck will consist of two velcro discs that will stick onto the back of the mics to make them one sided to prevent wind hitting the back of the mics, and 4 foam covers. one is fitted per mic to help tidy up the fit and to help disperse the wind a bit more around the mic. two or three spare covers all depending on how many mics are fitted.

Earplugs

perhaps a silly question but can you still hear music etc if you use earplugs wth the autocomm setup?

Good question I won't know until I install mine on the bike. The instructions do mention about using it with earplugs so it should be possible. I'd be interested to hear from anyone as well - any takers?

You can run the unit at a higher volume (how you change it depends on the model) and you can hear it, but I personally found a set of internal ear plugs from Green Leopard was the best solution.
