Hi, I’m after some advice on wiring. I’ve kindly been given a set of AliExpress aux lights (bmw replicas) with wiring loom/ relay/ handle bar switch. Looking to wire them in myself as I’m on a budget, I’ve got 90% of the idea behind it, just the switched/ignition live part as I want them to come on/off with bike.

Where is the best place to get to the switched live from without cutting into original bikes wiring ? I’ve read some people have used the spare sat nav craddle connector (craddle taken off) for the relay/switch live by buying a AliExpress connector with loose ends that wire into the light wiring loom/relay. Or even the dim switch on side of the bike? It’s not to power the lights just for the switch.

Many thanks

I think your idea is good... A relay from a switched live
But I guess that means the lights will be on all the time your ignition is on?
I think that would be a mot fail?
You can use a Denali dialdim, or a cheaper option is a Skene iq 275.
The Denali or Skene will act as a relay, and also allow you to dim the aux lights as drl's so you don't blind everyone all the time 👍

Easiest option is to pick up the switched live from the Aux socket on the RHS of the TFT dash (providing yours has one) That's what I did on my 1st GS before I got a Hexezecan. I just left it plugged in all the time and used the handlebar switch to turn them on and off. I just bought a spare Aux plug off ebay and used that rather than connect it direct to the wiring loom.

Hi thanks for reply. Mines. 2021 gs 1250, The aux socket you said on the right side by tft is that the USB ? Mine currently has quad lock plugged in that USB. Cheers

Thanks for reply. I was going to have a manual switch to switch on/off via a handle bar switch. So ideally come on via ignition and can manually switch on/off if needed etc via handle bar switch
I’m trying to keep it cheapest as possible, looked at canbus and co lights. But that’s £300 off the bat

Many thanks

The Aux socket is like the old cigarette lighter socket and has a 12v output. The USB socket will probably have a 12v supply to it but it's output is 5v so wouldn't power the 12v relay. Are there any other sockets on the bike, maybe on the side panel below one of the seats? If so those will probably be switched. Failing that the Hexezecan or Denali smart cans come up for sale on here when users swap their bikes.

Yes there’s a dim switch on the side of the seat which is another option. I’ve seen some AliExpress connectors that can plug into the dim switch connector and has an extra connector that can be utilised which would be a decent option if the USB is only 5v

If you still have the oem nav cradle installed and wired up, one of these will go inline and provide a switched live for the relay https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/2409932

If the nav cradle is removed and its supply cable disconnected, one of these will connect to it and supply power for the relay https://www.nippynormans.com/r-nine...tom-or-thork-dmd-t86-gps-into-the-bmw-harness (note - cable no 3 is the switched live and cable no 1 is negative)

Craddle isn’t installed so I could get this from nippy Norman and wire that in to the relay/loom. Many thanks
