Round 'n' round in circles.........
While the tank is off my GS (dont ask!) I have decided to fit a aux power socket in the same place as the GSA.

Now I expected to find a spare bit of loom somewhere under the tank to take the feed from but at the moment it remains hidden?

I am also "presuming" that when the OE socket comes from BMW it has a flying lead attached to it which might therefore point me in the right direction to finding the other mating half.

So in the meantime has anyone got any clues as to where I can find this afore mentioned loom?

I don't really want to come of the battery a) I have no more room on the terminal, b) coz I want it switched via the ignition.

Thanks in advance,

BTBR

Don't know about the wiring BTBR, but thought I'd mention Maplins...they do various types of 12v car accessory type sockets and I'm guessing that they'd be cheaper than the mbw ones and also you wouldnt have to spend out another 8 quid a pop to get an wmb adaptor....why the fekk cant the krauts just use standard stuff!!!!

You can "steal" a switched +12V here BTBR: the green wire on the left, where you see the red one and the brown one leave for a few of my toys.

Many thanks for that Michel, what loading will that feed take?

To be fair the aux socket will only be for powering a GPS but I might want to run a heated waistcoat at some point in the future so I am a bit concerned about the current loading.

Cheers,

Al,

I've got a printed copy of the workshop manual with wiring diags if you want to pop round and borrow it.

Cheers Mike, I need to pop around anyway so that you can have a look at the FF50 driving lights.

Just a thought but is the GSA wired live all the time or is it it switched?

The 1150Gs socket is live all the time. The Navigator fly lead plugs into the harness just behind the socket and runs up under the tank to the bars. Dunno if the GSA accessory socket uses the idea.

Theres a link somewhere in the technical section giving the website of electrical wholesaler, MBW male electrical connectors £1:13 each- ordered 10 this morning, so has someone else on here;

Socket - part no MC61.13.1.391.630 £15.24
Power lead GS - part no MC61.13.2.316.114 £8.05

Power lead has 3 ends. One plugs into the existing feed for the OE socket, one into the back of the OE socket and the other into the new socket. Piece of cake, fitted one today to power GPS system.

the whole point of the Aux socket is that its live all the time for pumps, lights etc so take it back to the battery and fit an inline fuse, fit two sockets while your at it.

I would have done that but the + terminal is starting to get a bit crowded.
Plus the fact that the OE loom should take about 8amps which is more than enough for what I intend to plug into it.
