All standard..

The battery, Altenator and bike are standard..

I use the lights often and not had any problems.
I do however use an optimate3 charger to keep the battery in top condition.

As far as i am aware.. the alternater on models that have heated grips is fairly powerful and can easily cope.

I run the grips, lights and heated waistcoat without any problems. Will be adding a GPS to that list shortly too..

Actually, my lights are now exactly the same as yours, 'cos the FF75s 'leak' light sideways throught the protruding lenses. Very distracting. Best to have them obscured by the DEs.

Awsome..

Awsome is the only word to describe there function at night.

Apart from the engine bars,, they would rate as the top "addition" to the bike I have made. I really cannot emphasise quite how good they are at night.

I was a bit worried at first, when I rode with the DE Fogs on during the day, but have not to date been flashed once, and have even past a few of the local police without drawing any attention.

An essential for night riding. If anyone is uncertain about it, just buy them, you wont regret it.

Not yet, I need to get my hands on a 1200 for a day first...

Then I'll be able to design some adapters to fix the light bar to the front subframe. I've been looking at it and it can be done. If possible I'll use the same light bar, so the 11xx version can be "upgraded" to a 1200 light bar.

What actually is the difference between the FF75s and the FF50s?

I have the FF50s and they are great, but I am just curious . . . .

They are basically the same lights, different shapes: FF50 = oval, FF75 = flat.

Both available as driving lights or fog lights.

I haven't seen them side by side in the dark, so I don't know whether they produce a noticeably different beam pattern...

While they may appear to be same but just different shape the
facts are that the FF50's as driving lights have a projection distance of of about 407meters vs FF75's that only have 270 meters! I have the FF50's and they are BRILLIANT!

Xenons..

Xenons are MAJORLY powerful. I cannot spout the candella ratings to compare directly but its order of magnitude difference.

The xenon DE, look the same as mine standard Micro DE's but need a voltage jumper/transformer to jump the voltage up to the high voltage they need to run the lights. So you have to find somen where for the extra wiring bits.

However the other big difference is the COST..

A pair of standard Micro DE, with standard bulds is about £70-£80..
A pair of Xenon DE's are £500, about £250 per unit. Look at the Touratech Catalogue they do a single Xenon unit that is a DE unit with a simple Ali Gaurd on the side.

Hella do sell Xenon DE units in singles.

A pair of Micro DE's would be extremely powerful...

But pricey and they would be main beam only. No chance of having them on as i have my Micro DE's as running lights.

Have a seach on here for HID and Xenon you will find a few peoples options/ideas/thoughts. In the end went for standards as for roughly the price of one Xenon unit, i bought both the sets of lights, bar, switch and had them fitted by a BMW dealer.

My opinion is, if you can afford Xenon units, nice, however the setup I have on my bike works perfectly for me, and i am not short on light at night.

One downside of having a xenon main beam, was that its so bright that when you turn to dip for on coming traffic, its like someone turned the lights out.

I havent seen the FF55s in action, but my FF75 seem to throw light farther than 270 meters thats for sure.

I have tried both sets of lights in the past and indeed I would agree that the FF75 do seem to project a lot further than 270 metres?

The only differance that I can see comparing the two back to back is that the FF75 beam is much wider than the FF50.

As to which ones are the "best" is down to your personal choice really. I like the FF50's because overall they are a dam good light and it looks nice as well. IMHO the FF75 is a bit better light because of the wider beam, the down side is its much flatter and wider shape.

I rode up to Alan's BTBR yesterday(Saturday), there and back from Dunmow 5 Hours of cold riding

He fitted FF50 Fogs and Driving lights to my GS

I supplied the lightbar (Bought from Rob Farmer ) and a Autoswitch which I bought from Nippy Normans which I pre sent up to Alan to do his stuff with

All I can say is that Alan is very Professional and a Perfectionist

Although it took six hours to do the work and yes it was a full six hours job the result is absolutely superb (Will post pictures tomorrrow)

If you want any additional lights forget about seeing anyone else just get in touch with Alan and get on his waiting list .

He will advise you on what you need to do, and ride up to his (even if you live miles away in Plymouth) and let him do the job


Sorry Alan but you did such a good and thorough job the least I can do is to sing your praises.

Also as a new GSer Alan passed on his invaluable experience when it came to my GS and sorted out a number of other problems which I did not even know I had

Well.......what ever can I add to that? other than, thank you very much Paul, it was indeed a pleasure to meet up with you.

To do the job right and proper does take a long time as you witnessed, plus add to that the 2 hours prior to the day making up the loom, makes the £75 charge a darn good deal!

And as far as I am concerned I treat every bike the same, as if it were mine own. Like the old moto says:

"If its worth doing, its worth doing right"

BTW, how was the revised handlebar and screen position on the way home?
