AVG red ! at start up

It's only an inconvenience really but every PC startup for the last 10 days or so AVG shows with a red ! instead of its yellow, blue, red and green flag.
That's at a guess 20 - 30 start ups in that time.
Clicking on AVG shows an error message in update manager of "Short_state_text_check_failed".
I then click on update which sometimes seems to do an update and other times not but it always clears the problem and the pretty flag returns.
Is there anything I need to do long term or is a future update likely to clear it or I could delete the whole shooting match and start again I suppose.
Or simply carry on regardless.

Go to http://www.filehippo.com/download_avg_antivirus/ and download the updated version. It will overwrite previous versions and includes anti-spyware etc.

That should sort your problem

IIRC AVG had a new version issued a couple of months back and support/upgrades were to be unavailable for some earlier issues.

At the time i got bored tryng to find AVG Free download so I bought there package, sems OK but i'm struggling to find
a set up for the firewall that allows my another PC to share my printer

You're right, the new version is 8.0.101 and I believe the older versions are now unsupported.

The new version seems to be a lot better and less resource hungry.

That should sort your problem

I'm already at 8.0.101 which is the current version.
I didn't know that before but you've mentioned in on a later post.
So I guess there's nothing to update.

Try downloading it and re-installing it

Check that it automatic update is enabled :-

Tools>advanced settings>Schedules>Program update schedule

Make sure the update every day is ticked as well as "run on computer start up"

Tried all that now young POG but alas no difference.
But never mind it's not a serious problem and thanks very much for trying.
