JDH and DNHunter - how are you getting on with the Azaro/Storm combination and what pressures have you settled on ? Thinking about these for my next set so your opinions after couple of months with them on will be valued , as will those of anyone else running this tyre combination. Cheers .

My brother's running these on his TDM900 and he says he's never lent over so far, with so much grip. He's running on Avons tyre pressures and not Yamaha's. He was on 020's but says these have got a hell of a lot more grip even in the wet

I've been using this combination of Avons since last November, well before BIKE magazine's test and have just bought a new set. I use pressures of 32/36 solo and 36/42 with pillion and luggage but am a bit of an aggressive rider. Manufacturers' recommended tyre pressures are for averaged conditions. The first set delivered just over 5000 miles which is fine for me as I value grip and performance over super-long life. They give loads of feel, especially the rear Storm, and are very good in the wet. :thumb2

I have also been using this combination on my 1200, they are bloody great.

Have covered about 4000 miles so far 2000 was two up touring in the Pyranees and all points North they stick to the road like the proverbial and are very sure footed in the wet.

Avon Azaros/Storm

If you use any less than 36/42, you may find you get "cupping" (disproportionate wear on the edges of the tyre) on the front tyre where the tyre is distorting. Makes for some interesting feel on white lines etc if it goes on too long - trust me, been there, done that.... Avons rely on the higher tyre pressure on their construction - each manufacturer does it slightly differently.

i was going to switch to these last month but was told they no longer make the front tyre for the GS size. This seems to consistent with the avon website. I went for dunlop trailmax inthe end but what is the latest on these - can you still get them?

Avon do not make a Storm for the front of a GS you have to use Storm rear and Azzaro front.

I talked to an Avon guy a couple of months back and he said that due to the popularity of the Storm on the Gs Avon would probably be making a Storm front fitment soon.

To clarify; from Avon :

Hi Alex

The Azaro front combined with a Storm rear is the fitment that we have
tested and would recommend for the R1200GS as they are a good
combination for more road based riding on the GS models.

Unfortunately, at present, there is no plan to produce a 110/80R19 Storm
front.

This was the reply I got, would have posted it sooner but I thought that I had deletrd it from my in box.

Hi Bob,

It was uneconomical to manufacture the front size in Storm due to the number of bikes requiring it. However, due to an increase in demand lately we will review this. The front tyre is available only in Azaro but this tyre has been upgraded and uses the same compound etc as Storm anyway. The Azaro front matches the Storm rear perfectly.

I hope this helps.
