Anyone used Avon tyres on an 1150gs?
Just got MCN and Busters brochure enclosed. Selling front tyres for £29.99. Looks very cheap .....

Ride journo Steve Rose had Avon Distanza on his long term test bike. He rated them highly.

Just found the Busters website.

The 110/80HR19 tyres going for £29.99 are AV33. Not listed on the Avon website http://www.avonmotorcycle.com/frames.htm These are Gripsters which were the tyre of choice when I had my Honda Dommie in 1993-96. You would have to use a 140/80 rear to get a matched pair. I think this is an acceptable alternative to the 150/70 OE. I would want to know when these tyres were made before using them.

http://www.fromebikebreakers.co.uk/tyres.htm has them too. Their deal is "buy the rear and the front comes free".

A pair of Gripsters would be 95 quid but a more recent design, the Distanza, can be had for £102.50 a pair

Cheers Wessie! (What a guy)

Just got the last pair of Distanzias for a hundred and two quid from Frome breakers. How did you get to hear about their great offer? If you hear of any more, let me know. I usually use Avon, Michellin (anakee) and the Metzler. Metzies are the best for wear rates but at £102 you can't go wrong!:beerjug: :D

I did not recognise what the AV35 were for £29 quid. Avon have discontinued them so they are not listed on their website.

Google returned the Frome website when I did a search for "Avon AV35".

Another firm that buys job lots of discontinued tyres from manufacturers are http://www.fwr.co.uk/ - they were knocking out Avon Azaro and Michelin Hi sports at silly prices not long ago.
