Got a high screen from cutmorej and fitted last night. Seems to be a lot better than the OE screen.:thumb

Only trouble is when I was fitting it I dropped one of the end nuts and have no idea where it went. It dropped from just behind the fitting but seems to have completely dissapeared. Not on the ground anywhere and I have had the side panel off and can't see where it could possibly have gone on the bike.

Anyone know where I can buy a replacement nut so that I don't lose the screen fittings?

You get double bonus points if you guess the location on the bike where it now resides, subject to successful recovery of the nut.

I have solved this mystery before.

IIRC On the side you dropped the nut there is a covered recess between the front beak/screen subframe and the black plastic cover that extends along to the top rear edge of the oil cooler, the nut when dropped often gets funnelled behind that cover, and gets trapped behind the oil cooler pipe, good luck:thumb

Cheers guys, I'll check these areas tonight. Just hope it doesn't fall out on the way home from work!!

I think you'll find the nut is actually under the fridge covered in a pile of fluff and semi rotted food. Failing that it has probably dropped down a knothole in the floorboards and is lurking in your spider and rat infested cellar.

Just been out to the bike and can't see where it could have gone. I dropped it on the rhs from the position where it was supposed to be fitted when the bike was on the centre stand, and am not sure where it could have gone on the wish bone?

Also had a good prod and look around the oil cooler and couldn't see it. I took the silver side panel off which gave a better view but no luck whatsoever.

Is it possible to buy the dome nut anywhere? I think this may be my only option!!

This is annoying the hell out of me now:mad: so any help further help would be very much appreciated!!!

You need to talk to the parts man in your local friendly BMW dealer. You haven't said whauraboots in Fife ye ur neebs, however the closest BMW Motorrad dealer will be John Clark BMW in Dundee.

That's exactly what I did. I was surprised to find it on the wishbone but there it was. It rolls right to the back of the wishbone (the rider's end). "That's magic......" If it's not there or it's not lodged behind the oil cooler pipe, who knows?

Bored now with guessing where the little nut might be. Maybe it did roll down the gap in your floorboards, as suggested by your compatriot in Fife?

Suggest you trot to BumW who will sell you a new one. No doubt it has a part number and a cost not in direct proportion to its size.

Me Too!

Yup, just the same despite the warnings on whatever it was I was fitting at the time.

Never did find it though even after taking the front to bits in the effort.:nenau

Must be stainless too cos the pen magnet didn't get it either.

Schtum I'm in Dunfermline but work in Edinburgh.

I have no clue as to how to reach the back of the wishbone so if it's there that's where it will stay!!

I will be out on site near Dalkeith tomorrow so will call into the dealership there.

thanks for all the advice, tips and humour!!:thumb

I "lost" one of the little fookers into the hole on the underside of the brace tube which holds the ribbed plate which holds the screen adjuster. Trust me, it is in there, I know it is.
Bin

Forget about them. I got tired of putting them off and on a long time ago and deep-sixed them. The adjusters stay tight just fine.

Damn it just discovered one of mines gone awol as well (along with one of the M6 clamp screws holding the silencer tube to the CAT) this never used to happen on me old Triumph.....
