Can anyone suggest a reasonably priced B & B/hotel within, say, 30 kms of Calais for an early start back across the Channel ?

Thanks

Why not just take a chance on finding one..?

There are hundreds of places to stay in that area.

Mostly because of all the English milling around...

SEARCH on UKGSer is your friend (for all important 'personal' rec's)

Google... For a much longer (though less 'personal') list

PS You ain't the first...

St Omer

St Omer is your fiend - some good restaurants and bars for the last night and just a 20 mins ride from the port

Calais is a pit, or at least most of it is. The French ( quite rightly) ignore the place.

Leave the town via the Coquelles road D243 (Sangatte) and ride down the coast road D940 west (trn left) towards Boulogne. You will go through a few coastal villages before you reach the roundabout with the D191 to Marquise.

The villages all have basic hotels or B&B's and / or head for Marquse or try Cap Gris Nez.

In short, anything is better than Calais.

Google, as ever, is your bestest friend...... Trust me, you'll find something. Other people do. :thumb2

Thanks for all the responses - much appreciated.

Actually ended up in St Quentin as I was too knackered to ride any further - rode from above Bourg St Maurice without using a single mile of autoroute.

Looking to make an early start tomorrow.

There's a good ride to be had from St Q to Calais, without hitting the motorway, too.

Bethune, half an hour on the Autoroute to Paris/Lille is a good town for hotels - lovely town centre, or a Campanile right next to the autoroute exit :thumb2

logyk, would be interested if you could outline your off autoroute return route from Bourg St Maurice - looking for ideas for the next trip South. Cheers :beerjug:

I can do better than that as I have the track on my Garmin.

If you or someone who understands these modern gizmos can tell me how to send it to you I will happy to do so .....or even post it here.
