Hello,
I sold my R80G/s in november last year and felt so bad that I disappeared from the forum for a while. I did pop in every now and again to check out some picks though :aidan
So today I bought myself a thrashed R65 for R5500 (about 370GBP). The engine is still ok and the frame is bent, but repairable. Of course I will be converting it to a GS :D
I will be picking her up this weekend and will probably start by having the frame straightened while the engine and swingarm are still in the frame.

I was dabbling with the idea of fitting some DRZ400 forks to the front. Something I would like to know is, What is a good rake angle to have if I decide to modify the frame as such?

Regards,
Newguy

Welcome back :clap to the fold....and there is nothing like a simple question to bed yourself back in with

Rob, Gary, Proff et al will be studying their notes to answer this !:D

We do of course demand photos of this project :thumb2

So here she is, i bit bent up, but not beyond saving!!

Will start stripping her this weekend and show you the damage up closer. Also not sure what the hell the previous owner tried to paint the frame with. Looks like chimney paint ???

Ooooo - just look at that cloudless sky and those dry roads :bow

Does it ever rain there ???

A friend of mine emigrated to Cape Town. He is back in Edinburgh at the moment for his Son's graduation.

We had a run last Wednesday - just up to Dunkeld, then the Sma' glen, Glen Quaich, a stop at Fortingall then along Glen Lyon to the tearooms, across to Lochearnhead and home.

He was on a borrowed 1150GS.

I think he had forgotten just how cold and wet the Scottish summers are :blast

:D :D :D :D

Good luck with the re-build.

Bob.

Got me hands on my first toys. A bit dirty, but should clean up nicely. They come of a Suzuki LTZ400

Head changes?

Hi guys, I have a Q for the technical Guru's.
Will it be wise to swop the heads of my 1980 R65 with the heads of a R75 if I can find some? As far as I know they have the same bore, so the heads should fit, right? Reason why I want to do this is the R75 heads have bigger valves.

Make sure the exhaust header diameters are the same for a 75 as a 65 first !!
Can't answer your question as I've never heard of this being done before. Maybe an engineering shop can do something with your 65 heads. The 65 was never really a popular bike over here..we seemed to go from the 75 then 80 and onwards.

BTW if you come across any R45's, please set fire to them...it is the least we can do :D
