Backwards PR4s

I have tried to find an answer to this but it is puzzling.

I have a set of PR4s on order. I have noticed that the tread pattern of the front tyre appears to be the wrong way round. Normally the channels would carry water away from the centre. But the front pattern seems to drive water towards centre.

Any idea why?
Bike tyres are often like this, I presume it's because the rear tyre is driven whereas the front tyre is pushed.
I'm sure there is some fancy scientific explanation but as long as the rotation arrows on the tyre sidewall are correct that's all we need to concern ourselves with :)
Ps, tractor style tyres are often reversed on the front (of 4wd) vehicles to improve tyre life & wear characteristics of vehicles that have a lot of road use.

You are thinking about it from the wrong way. Imagine you are looking up from the ground. The centre of the tyre will hit the ground first and push the water back to the outside. Just mark the tread pattern with a felt tip on something round like a roll of tape. Roll it on some paper and look at the pattern left . It all done with mirrors. This then helps to clear the ground for the rear tyre.
Hope this helps.........

..... Still reading? Ok

Here is a set of PR4s. The direction on contact is from the bottom to the top relative to our view point. So the lower line is earlier in time than the upper. Notice that on the rear the to two water channels are closer together at the bottom (first) line than at the top. This is to drive water away from the tire. Standard practice for a tire with tread, get rid of the water.

However, the front seems to force water to the centre of the tire. In contrast to the rear. Water at the centre of the tire is bad, less grip. If there is a reason for this I can't find it.

By the way the fact that the rear is driven and the front is not is erelivant and not actually true. Under braking the front is 'driving' the bike to slow down. The load in the front under braking is the same as the back under acceleration. Both experience compression and rotational load relative to the speed of the wheel at the time.

I'm only thinking about this because I don't know the answer and things like this bug me until I do know.

My Wellies have a Michelin sole with an inward design, I've found the handling and traction to be very good - therefore Id not worry about your PR4's

The response from Michelin seems to have some sense to it - the rear tyre ought to perform/grip best under acceleration seeing as it is the driven wheel and the front in deceleration ie braking where most of the forces happen.

Could be a load of bollox mind......

Lots of reference to gay in the thread. But did you know that bikers have the highest proportion of gay members than any other leisure pursuit? I wonder if tis down to wearing leathers and attempting to look butch. When you think of all the all male trips off to finding an adventure, coupled with lots of camping, the throbbing of many an engine between the legs... all the bike meets full of blokes... secret head shakes, next time a biker comments he likes your exhaust, it might have another meaning!

Wreford what make are those wellies please. Quite fancy a pair for potato mashing down on the farm.
Ta muchly.

Does that include having an arse like a tattered windsock after eleven hours of hard riding ? :D
