BAKERY RIDE OUT 27-12- 2011

A bit of a disaster, the tow bar fitted to my car was not fitted correctly and the bike carrier is dragging its arse on the floor. I know I should have tried it out first but you expect a reputable firm to do the job properly. As a result I can't make the trip, going to lose money on the motel and am very very angry as I was looking forward to this. It is going to be an interesting visit to the fitters later this week.

Bakerman, sorry for this, can you post me to let me know you got this message as I would hate for you to be waiting for me. If anybody reads this and can phone Bakerman to let him know, please do so.

Sorry chaps - work has stitched me up so I won't be able to join you :tears

How can you fit a towbar incorrectly?

It's either bolted up or it's not:eek:

What weight of rack and type of bike are you trying to load onto it?

Your bike is too heavy.....................that's the problem Grez

or the size of the wheels and the length of bar from hanger to centre of axel...:thumb2

my one was fitted but the truck was 100mm taller than it wanted to be...:blast

cos of the lift kit...:blast

PS I'm out been invited to sisters/ brother inlaws.... for a secret lunch...:blast

I suspect Grez is trying to carry too heavy a bike & rack on an unsuitable size car

Normally only 70kg Trials bikes on racks are suitable on most cars (non 4x4) and even then they would maybe exceed the permitted noseweight loading............if you were pulled onto a VOSA weighbridge

4x4 only have a 100kg noseweight usually, so that excludes nearly all Enduros, but people chance it because 4x4's have stronger springs which reduce sag

Trailers are the best way and BHT is selling one, Grez

EDIT - just seen Grez's car - Jeep Patriot SUV & KTM 450 EXC plus rack

Bike & rack = 130kg with fuel & oil on a car with 100kg noseweight limit perhaps, sounds like it's too heavy

Damn! Overslept. No chance of getting there now. Shame as its a good event. Have fun guys and post up some good pics.:beerjug:

PS KTM 450 far too heavy for towbar bracket. I can just push my luck with 300 EXC on back of Hymer or trials bike on back of Jeep but for everything else it has to be a trailer.

Only one incident in our group, a snapped chain link caused Nathan's group to break up into two separate runs, probably a good thing really since we made really good progress being lead by John (with his satmap!)

Covered some fantastic lanes, including stonehenge whoops (both routes). The only downside was we couldnt get across to Imber as light was failing but we may have a second ride out this week for those who want to.

Arrived back at the Bell just as it was getting dark - I think we were the last back. Quick pint and loaded up for home.

As usual, great event and good to put faces to forum handles. Well done Steve and Mrs Bakes for the grub.

So I can put a face to a name ..

Who was the guy who lead our group in the morning, (I think on an) on an xchallenge for who I rode tail end on my TTR600?

What a cracking day!

Thanks to all that joined me for a sedate days trail riding- even those that were around briefly.

the few photo's i took:

Away from the carnage at the bakery, we stop to have a count up and designate tec (briefly mike!)

22 riders in total :blast

Onto the 'plain behind tidworth, possibly the second or third lane. "Where the f8ck is everyone? surely i've not lost them already? Ooo hang on, i can see head lights in the distance :D"

Lunch, of which our time keeping was spot on:D. Well you can't be late for a burbidge pasty can you?

After lunch our group reduced in size down to 8, which made things a little more managable. we rode across to the german village below tilshead and then headed back. Easy trails were picked on the way home as Kurt managed to collect a puncture- the elected to ride back on a flat.

Still everyone got back to the pub fine!

Thanks for a cracking day out- these events never fail to put a smile on my face!

Hey Michael,
It was good to see all you guys again and a bit of a surprise to find it was on Salisbury Plains and not somewhere warmer ;)
I'm still bloody impressed with your 990, there didnt seem to be much it wouldnt tackle.

Apologies to all for my lack of photos, I'm great at carrying cameras, but I'm nearly always having too much fun to stop and take pictures :blast
