Balljoint rubber cracked

Had a bash at this today but couldn't undo the nut. I'll have another go once i've got a heat gun to melt the Locktite but a interim quick question, how much head does it take to loosen it?

Don't even think of trying it without heat. Loctite 270 (the green stuff used) is like concrete - you've more chance of smearing the threads off the fasteners than loosening them.

How did you get on? I was wondering how well the replacement boot fitted?

I purchased one and replaced it, firstly I packed it with too much grease now I have a good amount of grease I think the boot rubs a little at the front. its seemed and the bars run smooth with no problems so im happy.

were you able to insert the steel collar in the top of the rubber boot?

Hi,

Replaced my rubber boot this weekend as it was in 2 peice.

It took me about 45 mins to do in total including heating up the nut to loosen the locklite. In found that by deflating the front tyre, this gave a little more lee way to get enough space to fit the rubber boot over the ball joint.

One thing I did notice on mine was the length of the front brake line was the limiting factor and so was careful to try not to over stress it.
