Balljoint rubber boot

When I was changing the front tyre ready for an impending trip to Europe I noticed the balljoint boot is split... joint itself appears to be OK, so as it's unlikely I'll get it fixed before going should I bung a bit of waterproof grease into the boot or some other remedial measure?

If the rubber is in otherwise good condition put some grease in,clean the split edges thoroughly, de grease the split faces and stick back together with superglue. It sticks most gaiter rubber just about as well as it sticks flesh!

As far as I know you can only buy the boot with a ball joint complete, we have found a small universal Car one works

The balljoint on telelever yoke where it meets front forks kinda thing (underneath)

$35 inc p&p .... a bargain

Thanks for offer BSD - reckon I'll leave it for now and think about replacing the boot when I get back, might wrap a bit of tape round it.

It's not the cost of the ball-joint that's the problem, it's getting the old one out of the fork-bridge that's a real bastard.

I even managed to track down the company that makes them in Germany, fired off a request to buy a replacement boot and was informed that they supply the motor industry only, they have no capacity to sell other than in bulk.

I found a suitable replacement in the bin of a friendly car repair garage.
