Balljoint rubber cracked

people keep stating you can get a generic or a car cv boot one but does anyone know of where to get the generic one or what car would be best?

Go to what used to be called a 'Motorfactor' (back in the day) - they'll know exactly what you want. I guess even halfords might do at a pinch although you'll probably get a spotty kid that wants to sell you a bangin car hifi.

Well done, I have tried before but the places I went only sell the complete balljoints not the rubbers and I could not seem to match anything up.

Ebay have a likely supply but I don't have the dimensions so don't know what one to opt for, cheap enough at £11 for 4. Anyone know the actual size of the BMNW one, difficult to judge when assembled.

Looking around, looks like lots of cheap deals for ones just need to know the measurements, top hole, bottom hole and height

Anyone have one of the bike at the moment?
 

It has the generic name of BJ3 and inside top is 15mm height is 22mm inside bottom is approx 32mm, it is single convolution not 2 like original, I cut the top to fit the original steel insert "tightly" and pack the ball joint full of grease / assembly paste, I cable tie the bottom in position, I dont glue the top as I want more rotation as it has only one convolution.

Not a perfect solution but in my sandy dusty conditions MUCH better than grit and sand in there:D
 
I now have the gaiter as suggested from eBay for the ball joint.
Does anyone have an exploded diagram of the ball joint or info on it before I strip it out. Is it a tapered bearing or a sleeve affair? I see it has an Allen bolt and not sure what's it for from my manual. Just need to understand before striping it out and any info would be greatly appreciated

Its just a balll joint, the allen is to stop it rotating while you tighten the nut, you may need some heat as it is supposed to have loctite on it.
 
It has a straight shank not tapered that's why you need the hexagonal key to stop it turning.
 
cheers for the help guys, I think I have enough info to start swinging spanners.
Main thing I wanted to check is that its not a standard taper bearing inside the joint and it falls apart with ballbearings making a bid for freedom when stripped.

On You tube it recommends putting a piece of 4x2 under the stand to give room for the forks to drop and allow the balljoint threaded section to drop out of the wishbone.

I've just discovered that my rubber boot is in 2 peices (ball joint seems fine) so just as well I checked! Had a look at the youtube link with seems fairly straight forward but a quick question, what's the torque settling for tighening this nut?

As tight as you can get with the right size ring spanner.
