Bar extenders fitting question

Hey Folks,

Just replaced the handlebars on my 2007 1200GS as I dropped it quite violently and bent the old set.

Over revved it accelerating out of a corner having just fitted new tyres - schoolboy error

I'm also fitting a set of Ilium Works bar extenders. On fitting the new bars I've tried to ensure there's no gap at the front of the clamps - only

at the back, but have found this impossible without over tightening the screws way beyond the recommended torques.

As it stands I've got a 2mm gap at the the front clamps with a bigger gap at the back

They actually feel nice and secure at normal torques despite the small gap at the front - I've jumped up and down on them a few

times.

Has anyone else fitted these extenders and had a similar fit?

Each clamp has one M10 and one M8 bolt.

Pull the M10 up tight then tighten the M8 enough to hold the handlebar.

Check handlebar diameters. The fat centre should be 28mm. If the new bars are slightly smaller you could fit some thin shims under one or both halves of the clamps.

My Renthal Fatbars fitted fine into the OEM clamps.

My Renthal Fatbars fitted fine into the OEM clamps.

My Renthals measure at 28.6mm. I previously bought some 28mm bars and had to shim these and they moved in the clamps when I dropped the bike, I would try to avoid shims if at all possible.
