Hello great knowledgebase

I am lookung for some bar risers fir my 07GSA and have contacted Jaws Motocycles, of this parish, but he is away on a 4week holiday.

MY GSA has a factory fitted light switch, secured by four torx bolts:

Question, where do I get the correct bar clamp bolts, which will also accept the four spot switch torx bolts?

The lady at Jaws was unsure and I am awaiting their answer.

Does anyone have any other recommendations or size recommendations?
I'd like to go up a bit and also back a bit, but seeing as the forks rake back, then up a bit must also mean back a bit
Good specification request eh ? :D

I have no idea, but you've answered my question. I have some strange bolts in a bag that came with my 1200GS. They're the same as your riser bolts :thumb

Nah, it can't be that simple.....it never is is it....Even I can see that the little torx screws will not be the same diameter as the clamp bolts. There may not be enough metal in the switch plate to take enlarging of the hole.
I don't want to start an engineering job or a rewiring job and would like this modification to be reversible if at all possible:nenau

You could be right, but then the switch will be pointing away from me and look ridiculous :nenau
There is no pleasing some people is there:D

Also, like a dog with a bone, my braded lines are pretty damned tight as they are on full lock. How can you go up and back with that Nippy Normans setup without re routing or extending the lines?

Why not relocate the switch up on to the left hand side of the bar like the original 06 bikes or you could buy a new smaller switch as fitted to the 08> bikes? :D

I woild like risers to improve my standing comfort and posture.........
I have had success with a loaned pair of Nippy Normans Type bar risers, but after two weeks riding around, I have devided that I do not like them.

If you have short arms, you would probably love them and it gives you a very upright easy rider position. I have orang utang arms and this riser is too far back.

So, I purchased a Jaws type riser and I show the two compared:

In theory, the Jaws type (silver) should be less up and also less back:

The above picture is angled because the fork top is also angled and it gives you a comparison

I havent fitted the Jaws type yet because it will not fit properly and I await response because Mr Jaws is away on holiday. I am hoping that I simply have the wrong part.

The bar clamps are designed so that you tighten the front bolt FIRST and then the rear bolt so as to clamp and close the gap a little. The pillars on the lower fork are of differing heights:

However, the Jaws riser that I received (and note that I may have the wrong part) I would have thought, should be machined so as to fit directly on top of the lower forks and it doesn't:

Note I do not have the later, post 2008 bike and this riser was not ordered as the later model version.

I'll continue the report when nore info available.

I have contacted Migsel for information on his risers and am considering Rox Risers for adjustability, but the latter in a completely different ballgame price wise.

Thats not the way I would fit those risers. The part with the blob goes onto the original clamp (blob in hole) and the part you currently have fitted to the original clamp is your new top clamp. It is done that way so the risers cant skew.

No Mark... and yes..... the Nippy Normans part with the blob correctly goes into the lower hole and the upper original clamp goes over the bars and forms the complete BLACK NippyNormans bar riser assembly. That works a treat!
(These are not all parts of the same puzzle and I should have left the 'blobby' part out of the picture series for ease of explanation)
Here is the blobby NN part correctly fitted:

The SILVER Jaws riser is the conundrum, which is a totally different part, has nothing whatsoever to do with the black blobby NN part and they are only shown together for comparison purposes because I have removed the disliked NN riser.

If I were machining the silver part, it would also have blobby bit and machined with a lower step towards the back. Then it would be OK :nenau :D

On my previous GS I fitted black migsel handlebar risers and bought the longer handlebar bolts for satnav (torx screw)fitting from Wunderlich. I still have the risers/bolts in my garage cupboards if anyone wants to make me an offer.

I would be interested Pukmeister, but I am rapidly going off the bar riser idea and have concern about the way that they are machined. The lower bar posts on my bike are definately of differing heights so as to allow bar clamp tightening:

and I do not believe that the cheaper bar risers are manufactured to allow for this.
I have been in touch with Migsel and his reply said that his would not eliminate the gap shown in the above picture.
Mine is not the only bike manufactured like this, so I assume that others either fit a washer, or just tighten it up and watch it all bend :eek

After trying the NN risers, I have decided that I like up but not back. Migsel would be up and less back and I am now thinking that ,Rox Risers with angle adjustability are what I need. The Rox's would probably need longer cables.
Has anyone tried Rox Risers on their GS/GSA's ?

I'm pretty sure there is meant to be a gap between the front faces of the handlebar top clamps when correctly tightened, I recall reading it in the maintenance REPROM.

The risers I have are up only, not up and back. I can't recall wether they are 25mm or 35mm, I would check but I'm away from home for the weekend. I can't recall for definite if they are Migsel items, but I think they are.

Yes they look good BMWRich, but from the Wonderlich website, both sides visually appear to be machined identically and that surely cannot be mechanically correct.

I think that I'm just going to walk away from this cos it's all not feeling 'right'.
