I’m helping a friend dispose of a collection of bikes left by his brother when he passed away. One of them is this VFR750F-J, first registered June 1988. I did give it a once-over with a view to getting it running but unfortunately it needs more work than my friend is prepared to do and pay for, as he doesn’t want to keep it. The engine turns over on the starter but we didn’t put fuel in and try to start it as it will need an oil change first and the tank is rusty. Other details:
Electrics all function.
35719 miles.
Complete as far as we can tell.
Fuel tank requires refurbishment as it’s rusty around the bottom seams (aren’t we all). There’s a dent in the tank on the top right corner (you can see it in the pics).
Tyres need replacement and I would repaint or powder coat the wheels at the same time.
Front brake pistons need freeing up, brake callipers removed to allow it to roll. Brake seals and lines will need replacing anyway.
Air filter in OK condition and no evidence of rodent activity in the airbox.
Carb slides all move freely.
The hydraulic clutch system needs flushing and refilling, as the fluid has dried into goo.
MOT expired in March 2012, my mate’s brother bought it just before then so it has sat in a dry garage ever since.
Cosmetically tatty but no worse than I would expect for a 36k mile bike. Obviously that’s a subjective judgement, I can take more detailed pics if anyone needs them.
Bike is located in north Nottinghamshire.

£500
It’s worth more than that in bits so a risk-free purchase! Is it a recommissioning or a restoration? Depends on how far you want to go! You could replace all the rubber bits, refurb the tank, and run it as a hack, or go in for a deeper resto. Any which way, it would make a lovely winter project for someone. Please send me a PM if you’re interested (y) .

That's a nice little recommissioning project for someone with a bit of time on their hands.

Winterhacktastic 👍
