Looks like I’ve been lucky again, due to my love of airheads I’ve been offered a 1976 R90S outfit. It’s extremely rough and possibly beyond saving,I’m thinking of it more as a collection of parts that may or may not be good. It’s got Dellortos, all the correct badging seat etc but has obviously had a paint job at some point in its life. I’m not expecting to much and it’ll have to be cheap, it’s also got a nice 900 Reg number and V5.

A bit of T Cut and it’ll be fine. :thumb2

It’s only Wednesday, you’ll have on the road by Sunday.

I’ll add,
To maximise value if restored ,a 90s would need all of the correct bits fitted.
Matching numbers etc ,blah blah
You know this already .
If you buy it ,I know where there is a full Daytona orange body kit, freshly painted.
The correct handlebar clamps, plus a few other parts😎
Personally,
My generous offer as a token would be £500 max,as you’re buying into a resto that will cost you £10k

Snowflakes better for pulling the chair?

Looks like a bike that needs stripping for parts rather than a resto….
Or is that sacrilege if it’s matching numbers? Not like a 90s is especially rare….

Yeah, bad luck. What a wreck.
Leave it where it is unless they are paying you to take it away.

Fuck me that is a Lovely thing Of course the OOOO "it's a 90s" brigade will not see beyond the Ker Ching

You would be surprised what a difference dragging it out and cleaning it and lashing a load of ACF 50 over it to help neutralise that alloy degradation

More importantly it comes from an Age where things Could be rebuilt !!!

The most annoying thing for me would be the wiring and the ancillaries and probably where I would spend most time

Tanks and Bits are available AND I guess how cheap ?? BUt I got this bike Linky (Post 2 has The original dragged from the bog pics) and granted it took some time but I was working and I made the mistake of borrowing bits to get others back on the road Engine and box are changed but the rest is all Original salvaged or repaired Forks were surprisingly good

But the end result was this ... Just an Oily Rag rebuild But it's my oily rag rebuild .....

I've done 3 restorations of R90S bikes recently - and I am partial to an outfit. This outfit would be a labour of love. Mikeyboy's comments are spot on. If it were me I'd check the frame and engine numbers matched and that they are on the V5c. If they match then it's game on! In addition to the clocks, check the ratio of the bevel. By the stickers on the speedo, it's been changed (35/9??). Original bevels are getting rare, but the speedos are almost like unicorns now.

Wires are ok on outfits.

I think I read somewhere that the last few R90S out of the factory were able to be in different colours (red being one of them). It is possible but unlikely that it is a factory paint job. Also some of that batch had flat petrol caps, not the Monza type. If the tank badges are enamel (not the flat aluminium replacements you get now) I would strongly suspect it is a factory job. I'm rambling.

Should you get it, I'm happy to help with the little knowledge I have. Like I know where 2 R90S tanks reside.

:popcorn

Might be a bit more than dragging it out and giving it a clean, the handle bars have rusted thru.
😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆

I’ve agreed a deal on the bike, I’m picking it up on Thursday morning, it’s surprising how decent it is under the crap, I lifted the seat to reveal an original tool kit, the frame looks ok from what I could see and the engine looks pretty good, one of the dellortos is worse than the other. Parked behind it was a WW2 German Kubelwagen which unfortunately had rotted away to nothing, just bits of it left including the engine.

Told Ya!!!

be interesting to see what the barrels pistons etc are like and of course the gearbox BUT it was built in a time where things were built to last IO believe the frames were stove enamelled back then As to everything else Sure you can buy replacement bits But the Core is there to start with

But Do heat a tin of ACF 60 in a bucket of hot water (Atomises much better) and lash it over it before you start doing anything

Dellortos included

P.S. Take a length of bar or a crow bar with you I think the remains of the handlebars would just leave the chat

I think the handlebars died many years ago.
